In today’s explosive information environment, organizations have never had a greater need for information governance (IG) professionals who can lead them in creating, organizing, managing, protecting, using and disposing of information in ways that will reduce their risks and help them reach their goals. Identifying professionals with the unique qualifications to do that is about to get much easier!
As the leader in IG, ARMA International is pleased to introduce the Information Governance Professional (IGP) certification. Those who earn this certification will have demonstrated their competence for working closely with executive officers responsible for an organization’s legal/compliance, information technology and lines of business activities to implement an effective IG program.
Individuals must meet eligibility requirements for education and experience and pass a timed, 140-question multiple-choice exam to earn the IGP certification. The exam, which was developed by subject-matter experts under the guidance of psychometricians (experts in measurement and test development), is designed to measure the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform competently as an IG professional.
Candidates are encouraged to refer to the examination blueprint and questions to assess their knowledge in the six competency domains:
- Managing information risk and compliance;
- Developing the IG strategic plan;
- Developing the IG framework;
- Establishing the IG program;
- Establishing IG business integration and oversight; and
- Aligning technology with the IG framework.
The IGP certification is incorporated under an independent governing board for the purpose of maintaining autonomy in all of its certification practices and is not linked to or restricted by any ARMA International product or service. The IGP certification is awarded solely on an individual’s ability to meet the certification requirements.
Each application must be accompanied by a payment of $599; those who the certification board determines do not meet eligibility requirements will receive a $499 refund. The first testing window will be discounted to $250 for the first 125 qualified applicants.
ARMA International is a nonprofit professional association and an authority on information management and governance. More information is available at www.arma.org.
