Scrap Metals Supplement - Aluminum Scrap Consumer Map

The aluminum industry has earned a reputation as one that has been consolidated into the hands of a few large global firms. Companies such as Rio Tinto Alcan, Alcoa and Hydro enjoy considerable market share when it comes to primary aluminum production.

However, the comparatively affordable process involved in making aluminum and aluminum products using scrap as feedstock provides a way for smaller companies to retain a foothold in the industry.

Processors and shippers of aluminum scrap continue to have a range of choices when it comes to seeking homes for their bales and container loads of aluminum.

Facilities run by the global giants, sizable secondary aluminum smelters and small foundries and casting plants that buy in small amounts are all buyers in the North American market.

In this feature, we have done our best to identify facilities throughout the United States that act as destinations for significant amounts of aluminum scrap.

While we have done our best to provide a thorough roster of aluminum scrap-melting destinations, we realize that we may have overlooked some companies that merit inclusion on this list, or that we could have overestimated the amount of scrap used at other facilities.

If you know of a plant that should have appeared on this map, if you see one that you feel is listed here in error or if you have some information that is otherwise relevant to major aluminum scrap melting destinations, please contact Editor in Chief Brian Taylor at (330) 523-5400 or at btaylor@gie.net.
