ORLANDO WILL HOST ISRI 2003
"Exploring New Horizons" is the theme of the 2003 Annual Convention of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI), taking place at the World Center Marriott resort in Orlando, Fla., April 8-12.
Nearly 2,500 attendees, exhibitors and guests could attend the convention, featuring an exhibit hall with more than 150 industry suppliers, sessions on several scrap industry topics and guest speakers.
The World Center Marriott has hosted previous ISRI Annual Conventions, but this is the first since a recent $100 million renovation and expansion project, which includes a redesigned golf course and a new spa.
Convention sessions cover commodity specific topics (ferrous scrap, aluminum, copper, paper, nickel/stainless), as well as programs centered on changing laws and regulations and operations topics on new technologies and cost cutting.
ISRI also touts the convention for its various networking opportunities surrounding sessions and at a poolside opening reception and a closing reception at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
Apollo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell and ground controller Gene Kranz will speak at the opening general session breakfast, and satirist Al Franken will speak at the closing general session.
Those seeking more information or wishing to register can contact ISRI through its Web site at www.isri.org or by calling (202) 737-1770.
MILL BUYER AWARD CREATED
The Recycling Today Media Group, in coordination with its Paper Recycling Conference & Trade Show, will be presenting a "Buyer of the Year" award to a selected mill buyer of recovered paper.
The award’s criteria, nomination process and judging are being conducted by the Recycling Today Media Group, Cleveland, and paper and recycling industry consulting firm Moore & Associates, Atlanta.
According to Bill Moore, president of Moore & Associates, nominees will be judged based on four criteria:
• Marketplace Feedback – Candid input from the
supply community on their view of a buyer’s procurement techniques.
• Job Performance/Market Acuity – A technical analysis of a buyer’s performance,
including price performance, quality considerations and supply continuity.
• Communications Skills – How well a person gives feedback to his suppliers on
items such as rejects and downgrades, short- and long-range fiber needs and
transportation issues.
• Professionalism – How the buyer is viewed by the industry on his or her ethics
and reputation.
"Fair, scrupulous and intelligent mill buyers are appreciated by the recycling industry and should not be overlooked," says Moore. "We wanted to offer a way for such buyers to be honored by the people they do business with."
Nomination forms for the "Buyer of the Year" will be printed in subsequent editions of Recycling Today magazine and will be available online at www.RecyclingToday.com.
The winner of the 2003 "Buyer of the Year" award will be announced and honored at the 2003 Paper Recycling Conference and Trade Show, to be held June 22-24 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Chicago.
