Container courtyard

Four modified 20-foot shipping containers will house a one-of-a-kind dining and retail venue in Somerville, Massachusetts. Boxman Studios, a Charlotte, North Carolina, shipping container modification specialist, has created a container courtyard at the Assembly Row area’s newest shopping, dining, live/work and entertainment destination, the first neighborhood of its kind in the country.

The container courtyard is outfitted for three businesses, including a beer garden. Two containers are designed for retail spaces with 8-foot hinged storefront windows and steel doors. Two shipping containers that include kitchen equipment and plumbing comprise a larger space for Somerville Brewing Co.’s American Fresh Taproom.

Boxman Studios has been ranked No. 120 in Inc. magazine’s 500 list of America’s fastest growing private companies for 2014.

From 2006 to 2011, the number of calls by containership with capacities of 5,000 20-foot-equivalent units or greater has increased by nearly 80%.

Pink Paper

Cascades Tissue Group’s paper hand towels have gone pink for a cause.

The Kingsey Falls, Quebec, company will donate 50 cents to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each case of its paper hand towels and for each tandem roll sold.

Cascades says its hand towels—available in multifold, universal roll and roll towel—are made from 100-percent-recycled fiber and 50-percent-postconsumer material using a nonharmful dye and no chlorine. The event runs from July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2015.

In 2012, 2.9 million tons of recycled fiber were incorporated into Cascades products. This recycled fiber makes up 79% of the company’s fiber and pulp consumption.

Super shred

At a recently hosted Shred Day event, the San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) in California not only collected more than 400,000 pounds of paper for recycling, the group also set a Guinness World Record.

More than 7,000 people showed up to SDCCU’s Super Shred Event in July at Qualcomm Stadium to set the new record for the most paper collected in a 24-hour period at a single location. SDCCU set the original record in 2013 by collecting and shredding more than 168,000 pounds of paper, which was surpassed by an organization in Texas that collected more than 400,000 pounds of paper in April 2014.

Since it first hosted a Shred Day event in 2007, SDCCU says it has collected, shredded and recycled more than 1.1. million pounds of documents from the public for free.

Oakville, Ontario-based Shred-it, a leading document destruction and recycling company, provided shredding services for the San Diego event.
