Allied-Gator MT Shear Jaw Set is designed to Offer Lower Operating Costs
Allied Gator says its patented MT Series Multi-Tool, outfitted with the patented quick-change shear jaw set, is a shear configuration specifically designed for continual use in challenging, full-time processing applications.
The Youngstown, Ohio-based manufacturer says the mobile shear configuration can handle hardened steel wire, all types of steel cable and rebar. The materials have been notoriously troublesome for recyclers as well as traditionally costly to process with mobile shears.
According to Allied-Gator, the design features of the MT shear jaw set, along with its power and rigid jaw design, allow recyclers to profitably cut these materials on a long-term basis.
The MT’s significant throat force generated by the patented Allied-Gator Power-Link and Guide System enables continual power gain while cutting rather than losing force after the materials have massed themselves into the shear jaw, the company says.
The MT’s components are constructed of high-alloy cast steel, providing the strength and rigidity that allow the tool to shear through wire, cable and rebar materials and give the shear blades the stability they require, the company says. This enables the shear jaw set to maintain the blade clearances that are essential to continual cutting performance in these specialized applications, according to Allied Gator.

Sims Selects Van Dyk Recycling Solutions to Equip New Brooklyn MRF
Sims Metal Management (SMM), based in New York, has selected Van Dyk Recycling Solutions (VDRS), Stamford, Conn., a distributor of Bollegraaf, Lubo and TiTech recycling equipment, to supply the processing equipment for its material recovery facility (MRF) in Brooklyn, N.Y.
VDRS says the plant can process more than 1,000 tons per day of curbside recyclables and will sort all of the plastics, metal and aluminum collected in all five New York City boroughs.
“We are all excited to break ground on what will be the most advanced municipal recycling center in the country,” says Robert Kelman, president of SMM’s commercial and business development division.
Materials collected throughout the city’s program arrive in bags, and electronic and bulky items also are collected in the same stream. To handle the material, VDRS expanded upon its earlier pilot plant design and added technology to remove bags andto separate metal and electronics for further recycling.
“The existing Jersey City pilot plant utilizes three TiTech optical sorters to sort plastics, but because of the volume of the material in the new facility, we have incorporated 16 TiTech optical sorters to separate plastics, metals and containers,” says VDRS Sales Engineer Pete Bond.
The TiTech optical sorters will sort and verify 10 different marketable products for the city, and the MRF’s employees will handle quality control. Recovered commodities will be baled by two new Bollegraaf 120S balers, also supplied by VDRS.
ESAB Opens New SC Manufacturing Facility
ESAB Welding and Cutting Products, based in Florence, S.C., has opened a 260,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Union County, S.C. ESAB manufactures welding and cutting equipment and welding filler metals.
On hand to celebrate the opening were Daniel Young of the South Carolina Department of Commerce, state and local lawmakers and Union County dignitaries.
“We believe that we will continue to see steady growth in the North American market, and this move to Union County represents an increase in production capacity and the transfer of lines that were being manufactured overseas,” says Sue Bartholomew, ESAB global marketing director. “ESAB remains committed to consistent delivery of our premium-quality wires and to leading the industry in technology and support service.”
This manufacturing location will house the production of ESAB’s high-performance MIG and submerged arc welding wires. Two new production lines of the company’s AristoRod brand and copper-coated wires also will be housed at the new facility.
ESAB invested millions of dollars to completely refit the building. New power distribution, piping and a complete fume collection system were among the improvements, the company says.
“Thanks to the support of Gov. Nikki Haley and her office, the South Carolina Department of Commerce and the people of Union County, ESAB has opened this multi-million dollar facility,” said Lanny Pickens, vice president of operations for ESAB North America.
Fat Boy Goes to Work in Massachusetts
Paper, cardboard and plastics recycler KLT Industries Inc., Ayer, Mass., has purchased a Fat Boy baler from Balemaster, Crown Point, Ind. KLT collects and recycles more than 150,000 tons of materials each year.
Balemaster says the baler allows for maximum bale density, creating cardboard bales that weigh 4,000 pounds with an output of 35 tons per hour.
“Now we can load export containers and have 25 percent unused space to ship less dense material as well,” says Charles Melanson, KLT vice president of operations.
“Paper mill customers will be able to purchase more efficiently from KLT Industries, as domestic trailers can easily be filled to 52,000 pounds,” KLT President Kyle Trayner adds.
Ohio Baler Owner Acquires United Services
Mike McChrystal, the owner of Ohio Baler Co., based in Cleveland, has acquired United Services GP Inc. (USGP), a Rochester, N.Y.-based full-service equipment sales and service company for the recycling industry. USGP also provides rigging services.
McChrystal says the acquisition complements Ohio Baler’s national reach and allows the company to greatly expand its rigging business. As part of the acquisition, United Services’ name will change to OBC Rigging.
“The purchase of United Services will allow us to grow in new business segments outside of recycling,” McChrystal says. “OBC Rigging will continue the services provided by United. However, we are looking to expand the operation to provide increased rigging and equipment service on a national level. This acquisition will also allow us to provide competitive and quality installation work for our Ohio Baler customers throughout the Midwest.”
The CP Group Introduces New Logo
The CP Group, San Diego, has introduced a new logo to represent the five companies that form the CP Group. The CP Group was formed in 2003 when CP Manufacturing acquired MSS. Since then, Krause Manufacturing, IPS Balers and Advanced MRF have joined the CP Group, under common ownership.
The CP Group has more than 150 years of combined experience in engineering, designing and manufacturing equipment, sorting systems and control platforms. The company has offices throughout the U.S. and U.K.
“Our new logo represents our growth and strength as a group,” says Marketing Manager Ashley Davis. “The CP Group is committed to, and has been for several decades, proactively watching market trends to develop and offer the most innovative technology and equipment.”
TiTech Launches Next-Generation Autosort 4
TiTech launched its next generation TiTtech Autosort 4, a new sensor-based sorting system that features Flying Beam technology, at the IFAT Entsorga show in Munich.
Designed to be energy efficient and maintenance friendly, the company says its Autosort 4 is the first near-infrared (NIR) scan system that does not require an external light source. Instead, the Autosort incorporates Flying Beam technology, which was developed to offer reduced power consumption and lower maintenance levels. TiTech says the unit has fewer parts that can potentially fail.
The system illuminates only the area of the conveyor belt being scanned, creating energy savings, according to TiTec.
