Scrap recyclers source material from a wide variety of economic sectors, ranging from high-output industrial complexes to individuals with a car trunk full of aluminum cans.
Among the higher-volume sources of material are construction and demolition (C&D) contractors’ activities. Whether buying tons of structural steel from a demolition site, procuring cardboard from a work site or buying mixed metals from a mixed C&D sorting and recycling plant, scrap recyclers can benefit from knowing more about these sectors.
The inaugural C&D Recycling Forum, held in downtown Baltimore in October of 2010, took place when the overall economy seemed to be tentatively recovering, but the construction sector remained in low idle (as it does today).
Fortunately, the Recycling Today Media Group and two key allies—the National Demolition Association and Gershman, Brickner & Bratton Inc. (GBB)—combined a little bit of faith with a lot of hard work to produce an event that garnered good reviews from its attendees, speakers and exhibitors.
Attendees who enjoyed affordable and easy airline or driving access into Baltimore in 2010 will benefit from our return to the region in September. For those flying, airfares into Baltimore-Washington International Airport are among the nation’s most affordable.
As they did last year, attendees will have the chance to do some “one-stop shopping” in an exhibit hall that will feature more than 20 suppliers to the C&D recycling and demolition industries.
It is gratifying that most of last year’s exhibitors quickly agreed to return in 2011, and special thanks goes to 2011 Forum sponsors General Kinematics, SSI Shredding Systems Inc. and Machinex Technologies Inc.

Redefining Wire Processing Standards
In nonferrous wire and cable processing, SWEED balances proven performance with ongoing innovation. From standard systems to tailored solutions, we focus on efficient recovery and practical design. By continually refining our equipment and introducing new technology, we quietly shape the industry—one advancement at a time.
The 2011 C&D Recycling Forum program is taking shape as one that can provide insight to people throughout the C&D recycling chain. Recyclers will have the chance to hear about several demolition case studies that successfully combined on-time demolition work with high recycling rates and maximum profitability.
As in 2010, there will be many opportunities to network with colleagues before and after sessions and during meals and receptions. Recyclers who attend will have the chance to interact with contractors throughout the event.
