1. Best Slidex Sorter. The new Slidex sorter from Best Sorting of Leuven, Belgium, is a 1,000-millimeter (39-inch) wide machine that inspects products in free fall. According to Best, the Slidex recognizes different types of material, such as plastics, waste electrical and electronic equipment and auto shredder residue, and sorts it into various streams. Other features include:

  • Uses hyperspectral imaging to identify a unique fingerprint for each type of material, forming the basis for sorting
  • Capacities of up to 4 metric tons per hour
  • Database allows an easy setup of the sorter and limited configuration time

2. Eriez EP-Rex Hybrid Scrap Drum. Eriez, Erie, Pa., is offering the electro-permanent EP-Rex scrap drum, designed to provide greater strength than traditional electro-axial drums. According to Eriez, additional features include:

  • Can handle “meatballs,” or sphere-shaped ferrous scrap
  • Offers edge-to-edge separation
  • No transfer point drop in magnetic force
  • No decline in performance from heat rise

3. L&P Wire-Tie Pinnacle II. L&P Wire-Tie, Carthage, Mo., has introduced the Pinnacle II Wire-Tie System with CORE Modular Technology. The company says the Pinnacle II offers the modularity of its original Pinnacle system and adds advancements designed to make it more robust. Product features include:

  • Tying head is fully serviceable from the front end and can be disassembled in as little as 15 minutes
  • Can use a lower gauge wire
  • Wire gauges can be changed by swapping out the CORE, which contains 80 percent of the tier’s wear parts
  • Capable of handling bales of various sizes requiring 13 to 18.5 feet of wire per strap

4. Rehrig Pacific C.A.R.T.S. Software. Rehrig Pacific Co., Los Angeles, has upgraded its Container Asset Recovery Tracking System (C.A.R.T.S.) software program for municipalities and waste haulers. The Internet-based software solution offers the following benefits:

  • Aasset management, real-time collection service tracking and account audits
  • May provide savings in container capital loss when used with Rehrig Pacific’s RFID technology
