Builtrite Handlers line under new ownership

The Chicago-based private equity firm TJM Capital Partners has acquired Builtrite Handlers from Northshore Manufacturing, Two Harbors, Minnesota.

According to a news release from Builtrite and TJM, the business will now operate under the name Builtrite Manufacturing and will continue to design and manufacture the brand’s material handler and attachment products.

Administrative and manufacturing operations will remain in Two Harbors in a facility leased from Northshore.

Builtrite Manufacturing’s management team includes Tom Cavallin, who recently assumed the role of president and CEO; and Uwe Kausch, who has been appointed senior vice president of sales and marketing. Bill Van Sant will serve as executive chairman of the company’s board of directors. Northshore founder John Anderson will be retained as a consultant to Builtrite Manufacturing.

“TJM Capital Partners and its investors are particularly pleased to have the opportunity to acquire Northshore’s Builtrite Handler business,” says Van Sant. “One of the many benefits that will result from this change in Builtrite’s ownership is the availability of growth capital to support the company’s plan to grow and build value for all stakeholders and, most importantly, its base of loyal customers,” he adds.

QRS Recycling purchases Bollegraaf baler

QRS Recycling, headquartered in St. Louis, is enhancing its Louisville, Kentucky, facility in preparation for consolidating its commercial and residential paper, cardboard and single-stream processing. The upgrade includes the installation of a new Bollegraaf HBC-120MR from Van Dyk Recycling Solutions (VDRS), Stamford, Connecticut.

Matt Janson and Greg Janson, QRS Recycling co-owners, say the HBC-120MR’s ability to bale high volumes of OCC (old corrugated containers) and achieve maximum rail car weights were key capabilities that led them to purchase this model.

“The Bollegraaf baler has a great reputation in the recycling industry, and we’re excited to finally own one,” Greg says.

Matt adds, “I’m very much looking forward to having a Bollegraaf baler as part of the QRS family.”

The new baling system at QRS is scheduled to be operational in June of 2015, according to VDRS.

VDRS is a leading designer and system supplier of recycling and recovery technology and the exclusive distributor of Bollegraaf, Lubo and Tomra Sorting Recycling (formerly TITECH) machinery in North America.

Moros, Kinshofer announce alliance

Moros Industrias Hidráulicas s.a., the Spanish manufacturer of shears and balers for scrap metals recycling, has entered into a North American distribution agreement with Kinshofer USA of Sanborn, New York. The announcement was made at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, in April 2015.

Kinshofer, the maker of mobile shears, processors and other attachments for the scrap and demolition industries, will distribute Moros company products in the U.S. and Canada. Since the 1980s, Moros has sold several machines into North America, including the H-P-1400, a model with angular side-adjustable precompression box, and the GC-S-800, a high-density vertical compression and cutting system able to process 60 metric tons per hour.

The North American distribution agreement marks the next step in an ongoing relationship between the two companies.

“Kinshofer and Moros already collaborate in Brazil, Spain and other countries, and working together in the USA and Canada will only strengthen our relationship,” says Francois Martin, general manager of Kinshofer North America.

New Jersey recycling center installs single-stream system

The Occupational Training Center (OTC), Mount Holly, New Jersey, and Burlington County, New Jersey, officials celebrated the opening of the new single-stream processing system at the Robert C. Shinn Jr. Recycling Center in Mount Holly.

More than 75 people attended the celebration, which included guided tours of the 35-ton-per-hour system, which was designed and manufactured by San Diego-based The CP Group.

The Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders funds the county’s Regional Recycling Program, which serves approximately 162,000 households.

“Studies show that single stream brings with it an increase of 10 percent or more in recycling,” said Joseph Bender, OTC executive director. “At a rate of 35 tons per hour, the new single-stream system is capable of processing 60,000 tons per year, meeting the needs of county recyclers for the next 15 to 20 years.”

Technology used at the Robert C. Shinn Jr. Recycling Center includes a drum feeder, multiple screens with proprietary disc technology, a glass trommel and cleanup system, multiple magnets, two MSS Aladdin™ optical sorters and two two-ram balers.

“It’s a win-win for everyone who lives and works in Burlington County,” said Joseph Howarth, a former Burlington County freeholder. “The more we recycle, the less we need to landfill. Those cost savings are effectively tax savings since they improve the bottom line of municipal budgets.”

The OTC is a nonprofit offering vocational rehabilitation and job placement programs for people with disabilities.

System construction began Feb. 17, 2014, and was completed Jan. 23, 2015. The lead contractor was Dandrea Construction Inc., Berlin, New Jersey.

The CP Group engineers and manufactures MRF components. It comprises CP Manufacturing, Krause Manufacturing, MSS and Advanced MRF.
