ReCommunity MRF Features CP Installation
The CP Group, headquartered in San Diego, has designed, manufactured and installed a new single-stream recycling facility at ReCommunity’s Beacon, N.Y., material recovery facility (MRF). The system began running April 23, 2012, and is processing 25 tons per hour, according to the CP Group.
The 56,000-square-foot MRF serves residents and businesses in Dutchess County, N.Y. It recovers mixed fiber, OCC (old corrugated containers), plastic, glass, aluminum and steel and is expected to process 57,000 tons in 2012 and 90,000 tons in 2013, the company says.
“We are very pleased with the facility,” says Ron Santos, Northeast regional manager at ReCommunity.
“CP has exceeded our expectations with the overall design and the system performance. They have been very responsive to anything that we have needed, we are very impressed with their customer service,” Santos adds.
Kevin Sullivan, senior project manager at CP Manufacturing, says, “Our goal at CP on all of our projects is to meet or exceed our customers’ expectations. Given the feedback we’ve received, I believe the Beacon facility will be one that both the CP Group and ReCommunity can be proud of and hold with high regard.”
Included in the facility is the CP Group’s IPS Conquest™ 200S, a high-production multi-material baler with patented dual-hinge sides, allowing material to fall into the 72-inch wide charge box, the company says. The Conquest’s hydraulically actuated wire tying capability is designed for simplicity, ease of adjustment and long component life, according to t he CP Group. The Conquest 200S can produce a one-ton paper bale every 60 seconds, the company claims.
The MRF includes several CP Disc Screens for automatic separation: a CP Scalping Screen that separates glass, small debris and single-serve containers from fiber; an OCCScreen that automatically separates OCC from other fibers; a CP GlassBreaker Screen and Glass Cleanup System to break, separate and clean glass; two NewScreens to remove newspaper from mixed paper, containers, dirt and debris; and a CPScreen, which automatically separates containers from mixed paper using patented disc screen technology.
The system also includes a CP Group optical sorter, the MSS Aladdin™, which sorts plastics by color as well as by resin type, generating three products from a single input stream. Film Vac systems and an Air Drum Separator were supplied by the CP Group’s partners, Impact Air and Ken Mills Engineering.
It is the first time Company Wrench has been selected to receive the No. 1 Terex Fuchs equipment distributor award. The company was selected for its continued growth with the material handler line, top sales performance and superior service support of the customer, Terex says. “Starting with Brad Hutchinson (owner of Company Wrench) and carrying through to the sales and service personnel, the entire Company Wrench team is passionate beyond belief about ensuring the customer’s success,” says Dean Barley, general manager of Terex Construction Americas. “It’s rewarding to work with a distributor like Company Wrench, whose philosophy and dedication to the customer is in line with our commitment to the success of the customer,” Barley adds. “With our focus on the scrap and demolition industries, the Terex Fuchs line was a natural fit to our equipment offering,” Hutchinson says. “As a result, the relationship has allowed us to offer more solutions for our customers and has resulted in a huge infusion of growth for our company.” In 2005, Terex Construction Americas began its relationship with Company Wrench, which provided local sales and service support for Terex Fuchs scrap and recycling customers in Ohio. Terex says Company Wrench quickly became a top-performing distributor for its material handling line. Company Wrench offers sales and service support for Terex Fuchs throughout the Midwest and South. Terex officials presented Company Wrench with the award in a ceremony May 1, 2012. BHS CEO Steve Miller says, “Today, NRT produces the best optical technology on the market, which strengthens BHS’ position as a global leader in providing the most state-of-the-art and durable material recovery systems in the industry.” NRT, founded in 1981, owns or is the exclusive licensee of 29 U.S. patents and five foreign patents for near infrared, X-ray, laser and line camera sorting systems. BHS says NRT has the world’s largest installed capacity in PET (polyethylene terephthalate) reclamation plants. “MagneGas is a dynamic fuel for our metal-cutting operations and will serve as a cheaper and more productive alternative to propane and acetylene,” says Mark Wierszewski Jr., vice president of City Recycling. “We look forward to using it extensively in metal cutting as we continue to operate as an environmentally friendly recycler.” Scott Wainwright, president of MagneGas, says, “Adding City Recycling to our stable of clients demonstrates that we are continuing to successfully execute on our growth strategy. Customers immediately see the benefits when using our fuel, as well as the cost savings potential for their company. We are excited to work with City Recycling and are confident this will be the start of a long-lasting business relationship.” “We never stopped processing material from the day we started construction to the day we flipped the switch on our new single-stream MRF,” says Brian Dubis, MRF operations manager. He credits the cooperation of the RIRRC staff and the contractor for the new single-stream MRF, Van Dyk Recycling Solutions, Stamford, Conn., with being able to process materials continuously throughout the construction process. Van Dyk dismantled 50 percent of the existing dual-stream MRF and built a temporary container sorting line in a building adjacent to the current MRF. “We utilized the temporary system to sort and bale containers during the construction,” Dubis says. “Working as a team with Van Dyk, we were able to reroute the flow of fiber through the old plant and utilize our existing baler.” The new single-stream MRF has a capacity of 50 tons per hour, necessitating the addition of a second Model 120 Bollegraaf baler to bale the recovered containers and plastics. The old dual-stream MRF processed 30 tons per hour of fiber and 20 tons per hour of mixed containers. Rhode Island’s new MRF includes four Titech optical sorters, a Lubo ballistic separator and an LDPE (low-density polyethylene) film vacuum system. Van Dyk Recycling Solutions represents Bollegraaf, Lubo and Titech. The company recently unveiled its new corporate identity, having brought sister companies Van Dyk Baler Corp. and Lubo USA LLC together under the Van Dyk Recycling Solutions name. According to the companies, the Ballistic Separator targets the efficient separation of fiber and film products from rigid containers, while the Automatic Bag Opener is designed to efficiently and safely liberate material from the bagged waste. “SC Environmental offers more than 50 years of industry knowledge, service capability and a commitment to take care of the customer,” Gibson says. “Al Sherwood, Mike Carver, Bruce Ekhoff and the team at SC Environmental adhere to the same service-oriented core philosophy that we do here at International Baler.” IBC invites current and prospective customers in Illinois and Indiana to contact SC Environmental for their recycling equipment needs. Recyclers in those two states also can view the complete International Baler product line at www.intl-baler.com or contact the company at 800-231-9286.
