For the theme of its 2012 annual convention, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) has chosen the phrase “Be More.” In an interview with Recycling Today’s Lisa McKenna beginning on p. 66 of this issue, current ISRI Chair Jerry Simms of Atlas Metal & Iron Corp., Denver, says his take on the slogan is that it urges recyclers to be “more informed, more safe, more profitable and more active.” Traditionally, and again in 2012, the spring season has been an important time of year for recyclers to follow Simms’ advice, with the ISRI 2012 Convention and Exposition and several other events providing an ideal opportunity for recyclers to be more active and to gain insight that can help them be more informed, safe and profitable. It is a time of the year when the staff of Recycling Today will certainly be more visible, with our media group exhibiting at and taking notes at several critical recycling industry events during the months of March, April and May. By the time you read this, you may have already run into me or one of my colleagues at the Southeast Recycling Conference in Destin, Fla., the National Demolition Association Convention in San Antonio or the C&D World event in Nashville, all of which take place in March. If you’re an information destruction professional reading this in mid-March, you still have time to “get the 411” from Storage and Destruction Business (SDB) magazine Editor and Recycling Today Managing Editor DeAnne Toto at Booth 411 at the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., March 30 to April 1. In mid-April a healthy percentage of the Recycling Today Media Group staff will “Be More” visible at the ISRI Convention at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, where we’ll welcome any and all visitors to Booth 940 April 16 to 18. The month of May brings with it a hectic events schedule, starting with Waste Expo, where our staff will welcome visitors at Booth 4049 May 1 to 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The very next week, several of us will travel to one of Europe’s largest recycling-related trade fairs to exhibit at IFAT-Entsorga in Munich, where the Recycling Today Media Group can be visited at Stand No. 533 in Hall C2. As May turns to June, Recycling Today Media Group personnel also will travel to Rome for the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) World Recycling Convention and then the ISRI Gulf Coast Chapter Convention June 7-9 in San Antonio. The content of each of our Recycling Today Media Group publications, e-newsletters and conferences is dependent on the ideas and feedback we get from our readers. If you’re attending any of these events, please stop by and talk to us during a time of year when we can “be more” visible, attentive and available to listen. |
