DJJ Metals Group Expands West Coast Business
The David Joseph Co. (DJJ) Metals Group, headquartered in Cincinnati, has added personnel with the goal of expanding its nonferrous coverage in the western United States.
According to DJJ, the expansion includes the addition of a nonferrous brokerage representative for its Phoenix trading office and the addition of nonferrous coverage at the company’s Seattle trading office.
The company has named Brandon Reid to head its nonferrous business in Phoenix and Jennifer Sherman to handle its nonferrous business in the Northwest.
DJJ operates 13 offices globally. The company’s metals group brokers copper, brass, nickel, stainless and aluminum.
Colorado Governor Reappoints Alpine Executive
Alpine Waste & Recycling, Commerce City, Colo., has announced CFO Alek Orloff has been appointed by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper to serve another three-year term on Colorado’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission.
The panel, established in 1992, was enacted to ensure the state’s hazardous waste rules are consistent with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s requirements, preserving Colorado’s authorization and federal funds, and that the rules governing solid waste disposal sites protect human health and the environment. It is a branch of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Orloff says, “My participation on this commission allows me to serve the state of Colorado and complements Alpine Waste & Recycling’s commitment to environmental stewardship. It is a rewarding assignment, and I am grateful to Gov. Hickenlooper for the continued opportunity.”
The Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission is comprised of nine gubernatorial appointees: three members from industry, three members from the public at large and three members from government or academia.
Severstal North America Appoints Vice President of Purchasing
The steel company Severstal North America (SNA), Dearborn, Mich., appointed David Howard vice president of purchasing, effective Nov. 28, 2011. He is responsible for the overall purchasing function for the company.
Howard rejoins SNA from his position as chief commercial officer for RG Steel. He previously held the positions of vice president and general manager of the Sparrows Point facility when it was under the direction of Severstal, as well as the post of vice president, corporate planning, for SNA.
Sergei Kuznetsov, Severstal North America CEO, says of Howard. “His experience, knowledge and broad business acumen in the steel industry will be very important for optimizing our procurement practices and increasing the contribution that our purchasing organization makes to the overall success of the company.”
Sunnking Announces Promotions
The electronics recycling firm Sunnking Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., has promoted Michelle Read to president. Read formerly was chief financial officer for the company. She will oversee all operational, financial, logistical and sales and marketing functions for the company.
“I am extremely honored and look forward to taking our electronics recycling efforts to the next level,” Read says. “There is a tremendous amount of opportunity for the company and our employees. The culture here is truly unique and is the driving force behind our success. Without the combined efforts of the management team and the rest of our staff, Sunnking would not be where it is today and would certainly not be positioned for future growth and success.”
Sunnking also has announced that Dave Boscoe will expand his current role as eBay sales manager and lead the online product sales, inventory production, wholesale and retail division as the company’s new director of product sales.
Steve Dewey, Sunnking’s former director of business development, has been appointed to director of sales and marketing.
