Evergreen Recycling, a Las Vegas-based commercial, industrial and construction recycler, has signed an agreement to be acquired by Republic Services of Southern Nevada.
“This merger will establish new milestones, service offerings and make significant impacts to Southern Nevada’s recycling rates,” says Rob Dorinson, president of Evergreen Recycling.
“Together, Evergreen and Republic can provide expanded capabilities and more efficient services to meet the local economy’s changing recycling needs,” Dorinson continues. “Environmentally sustainable practices have always been and will continue to be Evergreen Recycling’s mission in this new venture.”
Founded in 1997, Evergreen Recycling has provided commercial recycling services to a broad client base and construction waste management services to hundreds of local development projects, including LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects that emphasize material resource conservation and recycling in their specifications. (See "The Green Standard" in the July/August 2008 issue of Construction & Demolition Recycling.)
Evergreen Recycling collects and processes recyclable materials that are delivered to commodity markets worldwide for remanufacture and reuse.
In 2007, Evergreen Recycling opened a 50,000 square foot recycling facility with a goal of recycling more than 75 percent of all materials collected. The company has received numerous awards, including the 2009 U.S EPA Environmental Achievement Award, the 2009 Best Green Practices Award by the Las Vegas Business Press, the 2009 SBA Small Business Person of the Year Award and the 2010 Construction & Demolition Recycling Facility of the Year Award by the Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA).
Evergreen president Dorinson will be a featured speaker at the C&D Recycling Forum, taking place Oct. 3-5 in Baltimore (www.cdrecycler.com/forum).
“With the Evergreen acquisition, Republic Services takes a giant step closer to providing the most comprehensive residential and commercial recycling programs in the Southwest, with a goal of reaching the highest waste diversion rates possible,” says Bob Coyle, vice president of government relations and public affairs for Republic Services of Southern Nevada “We are very pleased that Rob Dorinson and his team decided to unite with Republic Services.”
Dorinson, CEO Len Christopher and other members of the Evergreen Recycling team will stay on board as managers for the combined recycling operations, according to a news release issued by Evergreen Recycling.
