The Solon, Ohio, facility of Regency Technologies Inc. has been certified to the R2/RIOS standard by an accredited third-party auditor, the company has announced.
Regency simultaneously sought and achieved ISO 14001:2004 certification for its Solon plant, located near the company’s headquarters in that Cleveland suburb. The facility had already been certified to the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
“We are committed to delivering leading-edge recycling services to our clients,” says Jim Levine, president of Regency Technologies. “R2/RIOS, ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008 are significant achievements for our company, not only because we have unbiased confirmation of our compliance with these standards, but also because they were developed by key players in our industry ranging from manufacturers to industry groups to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).”
R2 (Responsible Recycling) practices are guidelines established by the United States EPA while RIOS (Recycling Industry Operating Standard) was developed by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) as a quality, environmental, health and safety (QEH&S) management system specifically for recyclers.
“ISRI congratulates Regency Technologies on its recent certification as anR2/RIOS Certified Electronics Recycler,” says Robin Wiener, president of ISRI. “We are very proud to offer this premium standard for electronics recyclers throughout the world, and we welcome Regency Technologies to this select group of committed recyclers.”
Regency Technologies, based in Solon, collects and recycles 38 million pounds annually of obsolete electronics. The company operates five facilities in Ohio, Florida, Georgia and Illinois. It is part of the Reserve Management Group, a $200 million company that also operates scrap metal processing facilities, marine terminals, logistics companies and a foundry equipment sales unit.
