Germany-based Coperion, which has sales, service and manufacturing sites in four U.S. states, has developed the ZSK FilCo filtration compounder to allow filtration and compounding in a single production step, offering higher product quality and reduced energy consumption when working with postconsumer plastics. ZSK FilCo filtration compounders:

  • feature a more streamlined equipment setup where recovered plastic is fed into a ZSK twin-screw extruder, melted, homogenized and devolatilized before the melt is fed through a filter to remove all contaminants and fed back into the same ZSK extruder to be compounded with reinforcing materials or fillers
  • reduce energy consumption and emissions for the extrusion process by more than 50 percent
  • allow recompounds to be produced much faster, and Coperion K-Tron gravimetric feeders ensure the high-accuracy incorporation of additives for optimal results
  • have a comparatively low space requirement
  • have a more energy-efficient melting process than a single-screw extruder, while the second melting process for compounding and pelletizing of the intermediate compounds are eliminated
