Tomra Innosort Flake
Tomra Recycling Sorting, a business unit of Norway-based Tomra, has launched the Innosort Flake for high-throughput purification of plastic flakes. The Innosort Flake enables simultaneous flake sorting by color, polymer and transparency. The machine:
- uses a near-infrared spectrometer to detect various polymers, allowing the recovery of plastics from contaminated infeed while giving access to more materials that otherwise would be lost or downcycled
- sorts shredded and washed mixed plastics into clean fractions of polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene and polyethylene
- uses high-contrast imaging to detect multiple colors to create single-color fractions and differentiates between white opaque, natural, transparent and translucent flakes
- has four chutes and a changeable illumination background, allowing it to run multiple sorting and recovery steps in a single machine
- can include the installation of Tomra’s cloud-based data monitoring platform, Tomra Insight

BCA Industries PD1000 IO X Tire Shredders
Milwaukee-based BCA Industries has designed its PD1000 IO X tire shredder to overcome the logistical bottleneck involved in the loading and unloading material before and after shredding. PD1000 IO X tire shredders:
- are portable and high-volume, specifically designed to work with open-top walking floor semitrailers
- minimize production downtime and maintenance costs by using readily available off-the-shelf parts and quick-replace cutter heads
- have a dual-shaft, low-speed, high-torque shredding system that can shred automotive and light-duty truck tires at a volume of 4 to 5 tons per hour
- allow for the shredding of semitrailer truck treads after the sidewalls have been removed
- consist of the PD1000 shredder along with a PD1000 IO conveyor, a double-jointed system that hydraulically unfolds to a height of 13 feet
