Gold Hill, Oregon-based Sweed has released its SS6K100 Reda cable slitter system, designed to help recycle steel armored power cables. The system, which is operated by two people, is capable of:

  • processing up to 500,000 pounds, or 250 tons, of end-of-life flat cable in a month
  • efficiently despooling the cable from a reel and feeding it into the SS6K slitter, which slices through the cable, splitting the steel armoring off and conveying it to a roll-off container, exposing the inner layers
  • eliminating any lightweight materials, such as paper or plastic, with its air pickup duct, guaranteeing the lead is clean and free of contaminants when it is deposited into a corrugated bulk cargo box
  • maintaining a daily processing rate that averages from 26,000 to 35,000 pounds per day
  • operating at speeds ranging from 70 feet per minute (fpm) to 105 fpm
