In memoriam: Walter Sellick
Walter Sellick, the founder of Sellick Equipment, Harrow, Ontario, died Jan., 10, 2017, at the age of 98. He is survived by sons, Howard and David; daughter, Heather; many grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Born in 1918, Sellick was raised on a farm in Harrow and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945.
Sellick managed a Ford tractor dealership for many years before, at the age of 50, he embarked on a new career with Howard and David, establishing Sellick Equipment Ltd., manufacturers of rough terrain forklifts, Jan. 1, 1969.
A former mayor of Harrow, Sellick also was a member of the Harrow Rotary, a former member of the Harrow and Colchester South Fire Department and a former chairman and board trustee of the Harrow and Colchester South School Board. Additionally, he was an avid pilot and a member of several flying organizations and a life member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 338.
Sellick served on the board of directors of the Equipment Manufacturers Institute (EMI), now the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), and helped pioneer the EMI rough-terrain forklift council.
Vortex De-pollution adds to sales staff
Vortex De-pollution, with U.S. offices in Denver, has added Trace Nichols as sales development manager to continue growing the company’s vehicle draining and processing equipment business.
Nichols is a seasoned sales professional who was contracted in November to join the Vortex De-pollution team, the company says.
“Nichols has a youthful energy and a proven track record of caring for his clients and treating them like family,” Nigel Dove, owner of Vortex De-pollution, says. “That paired with his knowledge of the industry makes him a great fit here at Vortex.”
Vortex is a manufacturer of vehicle recycling equipment for the scrap and vehicle salvage industry, manufacturing in Colorado and Michigan in the United States and in Nottingham, United Kingdom. Vortex also offer a range of ferrous, nonferrous and waste processing equipment. The company is a distributor for McIntyre Machinery, Wagner shredders and bale breakers, Bano shredders and Roter balers.
International Baler names director of sales and marketing
International Baler Corp. (IBC), Jacksonville, Florida, has named Sean Usoff director of sales and marketing.
As a long-term employee of IBC, many people in the recycling industry already may be familiar with Usoff. He originally started his career with the company in its engineering department in 1989 and helped that department to grow from manual drafting into solid modeling. In 2001, he moved into the sales department, where he handled direct sales and assisting the IBC dealer network. Usoff then briefly served as a regional sales manager before becoming national accounts manager in 2014, working closely with corporate accounts.
Throughout his more than 27 years of experience in the baling industry, Usoff has accumulated a vast knowledge and understanding of the equipment, real-world application experience and a dedicated mindset to the management team at IBC, the company says.

Sierra adds to sales staff
Sierra International Machinery, Bakersfield, California, has added industry veterans Jessica Driggers and Sonia Sancho to the company as a regional sales manager for the southeastern U.S. and as international sales and dealer manager, respectively.
“Jessica and Sonia’s experience in the dealer world and with two-ram balers is a great resource for Sierra. We’re excited that they have joined our team,” says Jose Pereyra, general sales manager for Sierra. “Their understanding of the waste and recycling industry is a great starting point to build knowledge of the scrap industry and the wide customer base Sierra serves.”
Based in North Carolina, Driggers will serve scrap, recycling and waste industry operators throughout Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
Sancho’s territory is southern Central America and northern South America.
They bring application knowledge and operating experience, with a focus on understanding the importance of service, the company says.

East Manufacturing announces management moves, appointment
East Manufacturing, Randolph, Ohio, has named Bill Wallace as its new platform product manager. Additionally, the company has appointed Chris Cooler to the post of product manager for dump trailers in addition to his role as Mid-South regional manager and Chuck Stephens to western sales representative.
Wallace will oversee flatbed and drop-deck trailer sales and will be responsible for product development and quality assurance. He retains his role as East’s Northeast regional sales manager.
Cooler will oversee dump trailers and truck dump bodies, while Stephens will be responsible for overseeing dealer sales for East trailers, including flatbed, drop-deck, dump and refuse trailers and dump bodies.
Charlie Wells, vice president of sales and marketing, says, “Bill’s platform expertise will be an asset to our customers for not only our future growth but our customers’ growth as well,” he adds.
“Chris has a firm understanding of the dump market,” says Wells. “His previous experience with East dump trailers combined with our new dump technology is an asset to East and our customers’ future growth.”
Stephens retired from East in 2014.
“We are excited to have Chuck and his decades of trailer sales experience back with us as we move into the future,” Wells says.
ShearCore appoints regional sales manager
ShearCore, Superior, Wisconsin, has named Kenny Bradshaw as regional sales manager. He will serve clients in western Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. Bradshaw has 13 years of industry knowledge and experience.
“I came out of retirement and joined ShearCore because of the product lines we offer and the spirit, drive and integrity of the people in the organization,” he says.
ShearCore makes, sells and services Fortress mobile shears and is the North American distributor for Copex Reflex portable shear/baler/loggers and Copex Lidex stationary shears.
GBB expands ownership group
Solid waste management consulting firm Gershman, Brickner & Bratton Inc. (GBB), Fairfax, Virginia, has announced that Stephen Simmons is now part of the firm’s ownership group, joining President and co-founder Harvey Gershman and Senior Vice Presidents Chris Lund and John Carlton. Simmons also has been promoted to senior vice president.

Simmons joined GBB as a vice president in December 2015 after being a principal associate from 2012 to 2013. A sustainable development business leader with more than 30 years of experience in the energy and environmental services sectors, he is experienced in program and project management, new business development, waste and power marketing, technology evaluation, business financial modeling, profit and loss management, facility design, procurement and construction, GBB says.
Throughout his career, Simmons has helped communities and companies develop programs and projects implementing the “3 Es” of sustainability: ecology, economy and equity.
Simmons earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla and a professional certificate in energy policy and sustainability from the University of Denver.
