Former Nucor CEO tabbed for Trump trade role
A former CEO of Charlotte, North Carolina-based steelmaker Nucor Corp. has been appointed to President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, with specific responsibilities for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
According to the World Trade Online news service, it has obtained a document spelling out Daniel DiMicco’s new role, while American Metal Market has reported receiving emailed confirmation from DiMicco himself that he will be fulfilling the transition team role.
The USTR describes itself as being “responsible for developing and coordinating U.S. international trade, commodity and direct investment policy and overseeing negotiations with other countries.”
DiMicco, both in his role as Nucor’s CEO and particularly in his capacity as a former chairman of the Washington-based American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), an association of North American steel producers, has been harshly critical of the steel exporting activities of China and other nations.
NWRA President Sharon Kneiss resigns
Sharon H. Kneiss, the president and CEO of the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA), Washington, for the past four and a half years, has resigned effective Nov. 7, 2016.
During her tenure with NWRA, Kneiss led the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan to help the industry improve safety, effectively communicate and educate about the industry’s priorities and champion legislation that helped to protect workers.
In a letter to the NWRA board of trustees, Kneiss writes, “After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I have taken the association as far as I can to make it the most effective and respected voice of the industry. The timing is right for a new CEO to take this special organization to the next level.”
In other personnel news, Jessica Mayorga, NWRA senior director of communications and marketing, has confirmed that Chris Doherty, vice president and chief marketing officer, also has left the organization. He joined the NWRA in April, having most recently led communications at Pendrell Corp.
