In Memoriam: Gerald Cohen
Gerald Cohen, former president of Central Metals Co. in Atlanta, passed away Feb. 18, 2009, at the age of 90.
Cohen began his career as the staff engineer and metallurgist at a cast iron foundry in Anniston, Ala.
Shortly after World War II, he returned to Atlanta to join his father, Morris, and brother, Bernard, in the family business, Central Metal and Hide Co., later to become Central Metals Co. Inc.
The family diversified into waste hauling and disposal, starting Dispos-o-Waste, which was ultimately acquired by Browning Ferris Industries (BFI). Cohen served as BFI’s regional VP.
He later returned to Central Metals and was with the company when it launched Pull-A-Part LLC.
Butler-MacDonald Names New Vice President
Butler-MacDonald Inc., Indianapolis, has named Tim Cash to the position of vice president.
Cash has served as operations general manager with Butler-MacDonald for the past year, overseeing all critical company functions.
Prior to joining Butler-MacDonald, Cash served as operations general manager at multiple plants for Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. His strong leadership and managerial background of more than 25 years in manufacturing provide valuable strength to the Butler-MacDonald team, according to a press release issued by the company.
Cash reports to company CEO Scott Johnson and is responsible for strategic planning and providing overall direction for the company.
Working with manufacturers, prime resin producers, plastics brokers and other recyclers, privately held Butler-MacDonald Inc. offers a variety of plastic processing services that enable the recovery of high quality polymers from pre- or post-production plastics and finished products that many companies might consider unusable.
RecycleBank Appoints Chief Financial Officer, Regional Representative
RecycleBank, the New York City-based firm that offers an incentive program for curbside recycling, has expanded its staff.
John Bax has joined the company as CFO, while John Mulligan has joined the company as density representative for the Mid-Atlantic territory.
Bax comes to RecycleBank from Sentient, where he served as CFO for four years, seeing the company through record growth and profitability. Bax also served as vice president of planning and analysis for Wal-Mart, where he was responsible for financial and strategic planning and analysis.
"John’s expertise and proven track record of success make him an invaluable addition to our team," says RecycleBank’s Co-founder and CEO Ron Gonen. "We are thrilled to have John on board with us as the company continues to grow and expand at an exciting speed."
As the density representative for the Mid-Atlantic territory, Mulligan is responsible for overseeing the company’s growth in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Prior to RecycleBank, Mulligan served as a municipal recycling coordinator in New Jersey. He also has secured commodities at the processing level and was in equipment sales in the tri-state area.
CP Group Announces Personnel Changes
CP Group, National City, Calif., has announced personnel appointments at CP Manufacturing and IPS Balers.
Josh Wagner has been promoted to operations manager of IPS Balers, Baxley, Ga.
"Josh started with IMS Recycling Services (a division of CP’s parent company, the IMS Group) as operations manager overseeing material recovery facility operations and the fiber and steel yards in addition to being responsible for equipment maintenance," says John Willis, vice president of the CP Group.
Additionally, Kevin Sullivan has been named to the post of project manager for CP Manufacturing.
"Kevin’s 14 years experience with managing construction projects will provide a unique perspective for managing our jobs," says Jim McCann of CP Manufacturing.
CP Manufacturing and IPS Balers are part of the CP Group, which includes MSS Inc. of Nashville, Tenn.; Krause Manufacturing of Bellingham, Wash.; and CP Manufacturing Europe; Littleborough, England.
Mountain Valley Recycling Names President, COO
Mountain Valley Recycling LLC, Boca Raton, Fla., one of the nation’s largest recyclers of plastic scrap, has named Ronald Whaley president and COO.
Under Whaley’s leadership, the company plans to drive recycling and sustainable closed-loop product development.
Whaley has 25 years of experience in the plastics industry, including serving as president and COO at Solo Cup Co. He has experience in plastics and polymers, purchasing, resin markets, pricing, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain management.
Whaley and Mountain Valley founder Danny Schrager lead the management team. Schrager serves as the company’s chairman and CEO.
Todd Steele to Represent Bunting in Michigan
According to an agreement between Bunting Magnetics Co., Newton, Kan., and Steele Plastic Equipment, Marysville, Mich., Todd Steele has become the exclusive representative for Bunting products in the state of Michigan.
Steele, a native of Port Huron, Mich., represents Bunting Magnetic’s magnetic separation, magnet material, metal detection and material handling product lines.
"Todd brings over 27 years of sales and operational experience to this role," Robert J. Bunting, president of Bunting Magnetics, says. "It is a tremendous addition to our organization to find someone of Todd’s background in the plastics industry and with material handling equipment."
Throughout the last 15 years, Steele has served in sales and management positions with Steele Plastic Equipment. Primarily focused on the plastics industry, these efforts have dealt with many applications, from bulk loading to injection molding.
In previous sales positions, Steele has handled various product lines, including material handling, robotics, cavity instrumentation and blow/injection molding equipment.
