City Carton Adds to Staff
Collin R. Whitney
has been named regional sales manager for the northern Iowa territory at City Carton Recycling. The territory includes Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa.Whitney is responsible for developing customer recycling programs, confidential material handling programs and equipment sales and for generating new customers, new products to recycle and new sales opportunities. He has more than 30 years of experience in sales, customer service and management.
City Carton Recycling, based in Iowa City, Iowa, bills itself as Iowa’s largest full-service paper recycler and one of the largest full-service recycling companies in the Midwest.
North Shore Manufacturing Announces Appointments
Two Harbors, Minn.-based North Shore Manufacturing, makers of Builtrite material handlers, truck-mounted cranes and attachments for the scrap, waste, railroad and general construction markets, is expanding its facility.
Approximately 29,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space is being added to accommodate increased market demand for the company’s products. Included in the expansion will be a state-of-the-art painting facility, a new assembly area and additional room for CNC machining centers and the future addition of robotic welding centers.
Along with the expansion, several new employees have been added in newly created key positions:
• Scott Anderson joins the company as chief financial officer.
• Uwe Kausch joins the company as marketing and international sales manager.
• Ean Kuhlmey joins North Shore as Midwestern regional sales manager.
• Srini Palaniappan has been appointed to the post of industrial/operations engineer.
Sonoco Names New VP for Recycling
Sonoco, headquartered in Hartsville, S.C., has named Jim Bowen senior vice president, Sonoco Recycling and Internal Supply, according to Jack Sanders, executive vice president, Industrial. The move is effective immediately.
In this new assignment, Bowen focuses on expanding Sonoco Recycling’s business through market development, acquisitions and new service offerings. He also is responsible for the company’s internal supply businesses, including the adhesives, machinery manufacturing and forest products divisions.
Sonoco Recycling collects and processes recyclable materials through 46 locations throughout North America, and its operations include a fleet of trucks and 1,300 trailers.
"Jim helped build Sonoco Recycling and is the best person to lead its future growth," says Sanders. "The fact is Sonoco’s recycling capabilities have grown far beyond the original intent of collecting paper to meet our own internal mill supply needs. Today, we also provide residential and commercial recycling services for several communities and even manage the recycling needs of many of Sonoco’s packaging customers. Jim’s leadership and experience will help us successfully manage growth and meet the changing needs of our customers."
Green Metals Promotes Cecil
Green Metals Inc., Georgetown, Ky., has named Steve Cecil president of the company.
Cecil has been with the company since 2001 and has been in the scrap metal business since 1980.
Green Metals, a part of Toyota Tshusho America, has eight locations in the United States. The company processes and markets ferrous and nonferrous metals. According to Green Metals, its detailed analysis of individual scrap generators enables the company to develop and implement tailored scrap metal recycling programs.
In addition to his new position with Green Metals, Cecil will retain his position as executive vice president of ARK, the non-metallic recycling division of Toyota Tsusho America.
Untha Appoints Account Manager
Untha Shredding Technology America Inc., Newburyport, Mass., has added Joseph P. Fillion as an account manager.
Fillion is responsible for working with the company’s distributors on the East Coast and is in charge of sales for the New England region.
Before joining Untha America, Fillion was employed at FEI Co., where he was responsible for marketing and product development within the technology incubator group. Prior to FEI, he held various application, marketing and account management roles in the capital equipment industry for more than 18 years.
Fillion holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering as well as an MBA. He has authored several technology articles.
Untha designs and manufactures shredders for reducing waste by-products and recyclable materials. The company is based in Salzburg, Austria, and operates a North American sales and service center in Newburyport.
Clement Appoints Vice President of Marketing
Ronald E. Dietz has been named vice president of marketing at Clement Industries, a leader in the sale of end-dump construction trailers.
Dietz joined Clement in 2007 to lead marketing efforts for the company’s new line of aluminum end-dump trailers. "We have been extremely pleased with the progress made in introducing our new aluminum trailer line to the market," Greg Hicks, chief operating officer of Clement, says. "Ron Dietz’s work to establish this aluminum line, plus his extensive background and knowledge of both steel and aluminum semi-trailers, make him the logical choice to lead our marketing efforts."
Dietz succeeds William Garrison who retired Sept. 1 after 25 years in the marketing position.
Dietz is a Colorado native who has spent 28 years in all phases of the manufacturing and marketing of trailers. His trailer career began at Timpte Trailers, Denver, as a sales coordinator. He eventually formed his own trailer sales company, which later merged with Transwest Trailer Sales of Colorado. He served as vice president and general manager of Transwest for 11 years, selling steel and aluminum trailers. During that period Transwest was a perennial sales leader of Clement dump trailers.
In his new position Dietz works closely with the nationwide network of independent distributors who sell Clement’s complete line of end- and bottom-dump trailers, pup trailers, dump bodies, roll-off hoists and trailers and transfer trailers. Clement Industries is headquartered in Minden, La.
Jim Barnes receives Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Oakleaf, based in East Hartford, Conn., has announced that its President and CEO Jim Barnes has been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 national winner in the "Services" category.
The award recognizes leaders who demonstrate innovation, financial success and personal commitment as they build world-class businesses.
Barnes was presented with the award Nov. 15, 2008, during the Entrepreneur of the Year gala in Palm Springs, Calif.
"I am extremely honored to be recognized by Ernst & Young on a national level and to be among so many bright and talented leaders across the country whose business contributions are far reaching," Barnes says. "This award truly energizes me, and Oakleaf as a whole, as we are committed to revolutionizing the business of waste and recycling in this nation."
Earlier in the year, Barnes received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 Award in the "Business Services" category in the New England region.
Oakleaf was founded in 1995 and provides waste logistics and recycling solutions for multi-location retail, restaurant, hotel, manufacturing, property management and mall clients, among others. Oakleaf employs 750 people and a nationwide network of 5,500 haulers, recycling and waste diversion experts.
