NUCOR APPOINTS OFFICIAL TO NEW POSITION
Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., has announced that Joseph Rutkowski has taken over the new position of executive vice president of Business Development International.
Rutkowski will no longer oversee operations at the company’s two plate mills or the structural mill joint venture Nucor-Yamato Steel. These divisions will fall under the supervision of Nucor’s Executive Vice President John Ferriola.
Dan DiMicco, Nucor’s president, vice chairman and CEO, says, "Joe and his team will have the opportunity to diversify Nucor’s geographical presence and to do so in a profitable and conservative way. We are in a globally competitive business and part of our strategy is to advance internationally through the use of new, leapfrog technologies and joint venture partnerships."
Rutkowski will work on establishing overseas joint venture partners that will use the Castrip technology.
The International Business Development team will also be responsible for the progress of Nucor’s international raw materials strategy.
BAYNE NAMES NEW MARKETING MANAGER
Bayne Premium Lift Systems, Greenville, S.C., has announced that Carmen Smothers has been promoted to the position of marketing manager.
Smothers will be responsible for all marketing planning, advertising, public relations, literature development, trade shows and customer relationship management.
She will also manage the inside sales team and will continue to be the contact for international sales.
Since joining the company in 1989, Smothers has held positions in office administration, inventory control, accounting, purchasing, international sales support, information technology, and sales and marketing.
Bayne is a manufacturer of commercial, industrial and refuse cart lifters.
SP RECYCLING ANNOUNCES STAFF CHANGES
SP Recycling Corp., headquartered in Atlanta, has announced a number of personnel changes within the company.
Ken Horn has been hired as director of Operations, Midwest Region, which includes the company’s Nashville, Louisville and Franklin, Ohio, Divisions. Horn has more than 12 years experience in the recycling industry. He has worked for Jefferson Smurfit, Recycle America Alliance and Great Lakes International as general manager, operations manager and marketing manager.
Tim Mishark has been hired as division manager for SP Recycling’s Silver Spring, Md., location. He has six years experience in the recycled paper and pulp industry with TAMA Paperboard and Ponderosa. Mishark was president and owner of Access Technologies prior to joining SP Recycling.
Michelle Thornhill has been promoted to vice president of Business Development in SP’s corporate office. She will report to Tom Hahn, president of SP Recycling Corp., and will be involved in growth and expansion opportunities for SP Recycling in the Pacific and Southeast Regions. Thornhill was formerly the controller at the MeadWestvaco Containerboard mill in Stevenson, Ala.
REPUBLIC CRANE AND EQUIPMENT CO.
A. Todd Garcia has been promoted to vice president of sales at Republic Crane and Equipment Co., Charlotte, N.C.
Garcia, who is based out of Republic’s Florence, Ky., branch, has been employed by Republic for 15 years.
"Todd has continually demonstrated his ability to build relationships, both with our retail customers and our dealers nationwide," says Republic Crane President Bill Allen. "His product knowledge and dedication to achieve has been outstanding."
Republic Crane is the master distributor for Liebherr scrap handling cranes in the U.S. Liebherr and Republic supply a wide assortment of material handling cranes to the scrap and mill service industries.
DERUEDA BECOMES PRESIDENT OF RAA
Waste Management Inc., Houston, has announced the appointment of Patrick DeRueda as president of Recycle America Alliance (RAA). DeRueda succeeds Steve Ragiel, who left RAA in February.
DeRueda will report directly to Larry O’Donnell, Waste Management president and chief operating officer, and he will be a member of the Waste Management Senior Leadership Team. RAA is a majority-owned subsidiary of Waste Management.
"Pat brings a wealth of industry knowledge, experience and leadership to the position," O’Donnell says. "His professional experience, coupled with his commitment to community service and operational excellence, will only enhance the work that RAA is already doing."
DeRueda has been with Waste Management since 2001. Most recently he was market area general manager for the company’s New Mexico market area, which he led to top performance levels in the company, according to Waste Management.
His experience while at Waste Management includes overseeing material recovery facilities (MRFs) in Palo Alto and San Jose, Calif., and Tucson, Ariz., implementing of an electronics-recycling program in Palo Alto and improving profitability of Waste Management’s MRF in Santa Fe, N.M.
"We wanted to select a leader who could bring our hauling and recycling operations into closer alignment," O’Donnell says.
Prior to joining Waste Management, DeRueda was with BFI for 14 years, where he served in several different capacities, including corporate safety manager and regional risk manager.
DeRueda holds a bachelor’s of arts in health and safety studies from California State University at Los Angeles.
Waste Management has also announced the elevation of Cherie C. Rice, vice president, Finance and Treasurer, to its Senior Leadership Team.
Rice has been with Waste Management since 1985 and has been in her current role since January 2004. During her 20-year career with the company, she has held positions in its field operations, ranging from accounting manager to division and region controller.
HEIL ENVIRONMENTAL
Heil Environmental, Chattanooga, Tenn., has announced the appointment of Chad Hardy as the new western region sales manager, according to a release from the company.
Hardy will be responsible for managing Heil’s distributors and direct sales, service and parts locations in California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii and Western Canada. He will also assume responsibility for Heil Arizona, a retail branch located in Phoenix, where he will be based.
Hardy comes to Heil with more than 10 years of experience working in management and operational positions with BFI and Allied Waste Industries in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Most recently, he served as district manager in Oklahoma City for IESI, a waste hauling company in Fort Worth, Texas.
Heil Environmental, established in 1901, manufactures refuse collection technology, including front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders and recyclers.
