GALAMBA METALS GROUP

The Galamba Metals Group of Companies Inc., Kansas City, Mo., has announced that John Rakos has joined the company as chief operating officer. Rakos had previously worked at Philip Services Corp., serving as a scrap broker, and has become familiar with Galamba’s products, processes and employees while at times working in cooperation with the Galamba Group.

Prior to joining Galamba, Rakos’ experience included managing two yards in the St. Louis area, working as a broker for Philip and its predecessor company Luria Brothers for 11 years and in new steel sales for North Star Steel.

According to a Galamba Metals Group news release, Rakos’s experience in operations, marketing, industrial account management, trucking and rail transportation will be a significant resource for the Galamba Companies.

The Galamba Metals Group of Companies is a full-service metal recycler with a regional network of 10 companies located in the Midwest.

BEHR IRON AND STEEL CO.

John J. Beach has joined Behr Iron and Steel Co., Rockford, Ill., as a vice president. Prior to joining Behr, Beach worked for Cincinnati-based David J. Joseph Co. at its Cincinnati, Richmond, Va., and Chicago locations.

Behr Iron and Steel Co. processes scrap at facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, using shredders, shears and balers.

TIE-TEK LLC

The Tie-Tek LLC subsidiary of North American Technologies Group Inc., Houston, has added three individuals to its management team.

David Collins, who has 20 years of experience in industrial sales and management, has been added as director of operations.

The new director of engineering is John McGarigal, who has 16 years of experience in plastics and basic materials processing as well as construction and project management.

Dan Brink has been added as director of sales for Tie-Tek. Brink has more than 15 years of experience in industrial sales and marketing, including five years with U.S. Plastic Lumber Corp.

Tie-Tek makes composite railroad crossties from recycled plastics and scrap tires.

U.S. EPA REGION 5

Thomas Skinner, currently EPA’s Region 5 administrator, has been named acting assistant administrator for the EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.

Skinner was formerly director of the Illinois EPA.

Phyllis Harris, the current acting assistant administrator, will remain as the deputy assistant administrator.

Bharat Mathur, the current deputy regional administrator, will be the acting regional administrator for Region 5.

GENESIS EQUIPMENT & MANUFACTURING INC.

Scrap and demolition industry equipment supplier Genesis Equipment & Manufacturing Inc., Superior, Wis., has named two new regional managers.

has been named manager of the Great Lakes region, which covers Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and northern Illinois. He previously served as managing director in the U.S. for New Zealand-based A-Ward Attachments and prior to that as the manager of marketing and sales for attachment maker Allied-Gator of Youngstown, Ohio. "Over the past 13 years, I’ve had a unique opportunity to literally grow up in the scrap and demolition industries," he remarks.

For the Southeast region, which includes Alabama, the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia, Genesis has named John Breaux as

the new regional manager. Breaux has worked in the equipment rental industry for more than 12 years. "I benefited from the fact that I was getting to know the people in the industries we served—construction, demolition, recycling and the utility markets—and understand their needs," says Breaux.

The hydraulic attachments made by Genesis include mobile shears and other devices used in the scrap processing, demolition, reconstruction, quarry, solid waste and other industries.

INSTITUTE OF SCRAP RECYCLING INDUSTRIES INC.

A new team of Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) officers was elected and installed at the association’s Annual Convention, which took place in late April in Las Vegas.

Joel Denbo of Tennessee Valley Recycling LLC, Decatur, Ala., has been elected to a two-year term as national chair of ISRI. He has served as chair-elect since 2002.

Also installed as officers were Frank Cozzi of Cozzi Enterprises, Burr Ridge, Ill., as chair-elect; George Adams of Adams Steel, Anaheim, Calif., as vice chair; and John Sacco of Sierra Iron & Metal Co., Bakersfield, Calif., as secretary-treasurer.
