Emanuel (Manny) Bodner, president of Bodner Metal & Iron Corp., Houston, was presented with the 2003 Environmental Professional of the Year Award by the City of Houston and the Overseas Chinese Environmental Engineers and Scientists Association (OCEESA).
The award was presented to the processor and supplier of ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal "in recognition of his leadership and contributions in recycling," according to a news release issued by Bodner Metal & Iron Corp. Bodner received the award at the OCEESA’s first annual Environmental Summit, held in the fall of 2003 in Houston.
In addition to his role as company president, Bodner is chair of the Operations Committee of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI); a member of the ISRI Board of Directors; and vice president of the ISRI Gulf Coast Chapter.
Bodner is also a former board member of the Texas Rehabilitation Commission and a past chair of the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
SCA TISSUE, NORTH AMERICA
David Bricker has been named manager of fiber procurement for the Southern region of SCA Tissue, North America, based in Philadelphia. In his new role, Bricker will oversee the purchase of OCC, residential mixed paper, sorted office and coated book stock for the company’s new Barton, Ala., facility, according to David Knight, director of fiber procurement for the Tissue Division of SCA North America.
Bricker previously has worked in the industry for more than a decade, most recently as a general manager for Caraustar Industries, where he oversaw purchasing, operational and sales activity for a Caraustar secondary recovery facility.
SCA’s Barton facility is expected to start operations this month and be operating at full capacity by the end of 2004.
The Tissue Division of SCA North America produces paper towel, tissue and napkin products for the "away from home" market, and employs some 2,500 people in 11 locations in the U.S.
PACIFIC STEEL AND RECYCLING
Pacific Steel and Recycling, Great Falls, Mont., has promoted Ray Wahlert to president and Bill Knick to senior vice president. Long-time executive N.E. "Tuck" Vosburg will continue as CEO and also becomes chairman of the board.
Wahlert has been with Pacific Steel for nearly 25 years, serving as a branch manager and as a board member for the past seven years.
Knick has been with Pacific for nearly 30 years, has been a vice president for six years and has served on the board for 12 years. He will continue to focus on the company’s Recycling Division.
Pacific Steel and Recycling has more than 35 locations throughout the northwestern U.S., operating scrap recycling centers as well as steel service centers.
R.W. BECK
Management consulting and engineering firm R. W. Beck’s Orlando office has added Abby Goldsmith as a Senior Consultant for the Infrastructure Services Group and as Manager of the Atlanta Office.
Goldsmith will oversee the company’s technical consulting services on solid waste management, water and waste water issues to state and local governments in Georgia and South Carolina.
With more than 18 years of industry experience, Goldsmith came to R. W. Beck from Weston Solutions Inc. in Atlanta. She has served on numerous policy-setting committees and board of directors, including serving as the first president of the Georgia Recycling Coalition.
Also at R.W. Beck, Jon Hoyle has been added as an analyst/project manager providing support for water and waste-related projects, including studies of municipal recycling programs.
Hoyle will assist with the research and analysis of environmental planning projects, provide analysis of operating and cost data and perform studies for cost of service, efficiency evaluation, financial rates and strategic planning.
Lincoln Metal Processing
Jeremy Lincoln has joined Lincoln Metal Processing Co., Erie, Pa., representing the third generation of the Lincoln family to work for the scrap processing organization.
Before moving back to Erie to join the family business, Jeremy worked in the Chicago area for several years with the Chicago Futures Group, Futrex Trading LLC and as an equity index option market maker on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
As a vice president with Lincoln Metal, Jeremy’s responsibilities include purchasing for the Erie Division, account management duties and logistics for the company’s portable baling operation, National Recycling Services Inc.
