PROLER
Steven Gilliland has been named president and CEO of Proler International, Houston. He will succeed Herman Proler who will continue to serve as chairman of the board. “Now is the right time to pass on the CEO’s duties to Gilliland,” says Proler. “I believe that the company has made substantial progress during the last several years toward positioning Proler as an active player in the recycling and energy businesses and reducing Proler’s dependence on the cyclical ferrous metal market.”
Proler also appointed Kurt Smalberg to the newly created position of vice president of scrap operations. Smalberg has more than 35 years of experience in the metals industry.
VERMEER MANUFACTURING
Vermeer Manufacturing, Pella, Iowa, has appointed Ken Van Zee as product manager to head up the company’s Environmental Group which engineers, builds and markets the TG-400 Tub Grinder.
BIR
Ivan Sorenson has been named environmental officer for the Bureau of International Recycling, Brussels, Belgium. Previously employed by the European Commission and the Council of Ministers’ General Secretariat, his main fields of expertise are European Union politics and law, and environmental and international trade law.
In addition, Isabelle Adam was appointed communications officer for BIR. As such, she will handle BIR publications and overall communication with the press and other organizations. Adam previously worked for the European Commission and then served as information officer for the Eurogroup for Animal Welfare.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTS
William Robinette has ben named as senior vice president of Environmental Products Corp., Fairfax, Va. He will direct the company’s sales and marketing activities. Robinette brings more than 15 years of sales, marketing and management experience to the position.
NCRA
The North Carolina Recycling Association, Raleigh, N.C., has appointed Craig Barry as executive director. Barry has worked for the NCRA for the past two years as market development coordinator, at which time he was responsible for recyclables market development, rural waste reduction and related recycling programs.
WHEELABRATOR
Wheelabrator Clean Water Inc. has appointed Stephen Bell as customer service engineer at its Memtek Division headquartered in Billerica, Mass.
ROCK-TENN
Rock-Tenn Recycling, Dallas, has named Carlos Rovelo as market development director for the Southwest. In his new position, Rovelo will work with municipalities, state agencies, schools, public interest groups and other organizations to develop recycling infrastructures for increasing the recovery of recyclable paper and finding new markets in Texas and Mexico.
DUPONT FILMS
Len Jannaman has been named PET recycle steward and manager for DuPont Films, Wilmington, Del. In his new position, Jannaman will develop recycling strategies for the company, and will help lead DuPont Films proprietary polyester regeneration technology called “Petretec.”
In a related move, Tom Beliveau was named operations manager for dimethyl terephthalate.
DEMPSTER INC.
John Boonstra has been named president of Dempster Inc., Toccoa, Ga. Boonstra brings more than 20 years of solid waste experience to his new position, according to Dempster's parent company, Tocca Metal Technologies. Dempster is a manufacturer of waste and recycling equipment.
