THE COLUMBIA COMPANIES
Richard Jordan has been appointed chief operating officer of The Columbia Companies Inc., Cleveland. Columbia Companies is part of the Columbia National Group Inc. and is a major supplier of ferrous and nonferrous scrap to steel producers and foundries. Jordan previously worked for The David J. Joseph Co., Cincinnati, and is a co-author of McGraw-Hill’s "Recycling Handbook."
PERRY H. KOPLIK & SONS
Perry H. Koplik & Sons Inc., New York, has named Craig Jackson vice president, market pulp, for the company’s Fiber Management Unit. He most recently served as vice president of the Fiber and International Business unit of Simpson Paper Co. In his new position, Jackson will be responsible for all of Koplik’s Latin American pulp activity, including activity in Mexico. In addition, he will be heavily involved in the expansion of the business in the rapidly growing Asian market.
IOWA DNR
The Waste Reduction Assistance Program of the Department of Natural Resources, Des Moines, Iowa, has named Beth Hicks as program manager. Hicks has been with the WRAP division for two years providing recycling technical assistance to Iowa businesses and industries.
NRRA
Jack Kraichnan has resigned as technical assistance manager of the Northeast Resource Recovery Association, Concord, N.H. He has moved to Martha’s Vineyard to operate that island’s Edgartown wastewater treatment plant.
In addition, Laura Tobin has been elected to fill a vacancy on the NRRA board of trustees. Tobin is an attorney with a law firm in Concord.
M. KIMERLING AND SONS INC.
M. Kimerling and Sons Inc., Birmingham, Ala., has named Bishop Reeves head of its newly established ferrous brokerage operation. Also joining the company is Neil Fisher who will be responsible for the continued expansion and strategic development of the company’s nonferrous operations.
TELEDYNE SPECIALTY EQUIPMENT
Dean Hubble has been named northwest area manager for Teledyne Specialty Equipment’s Construction and Mining Products, Solon, Ohio. His responsibilities include working with companies and distributors to assure greater productivity with Teledyne’s excavator attachments, hammers, crushers, shears, compactors and pulverizers.
SPANGENBERG RECEIVES AWARD
Richard Spangenberg, director of recycling research at Weyerhaeuser’s Technology Center in Tacoma, Wash., is the recipient of the 1996 Pulp Manufacture Division Leadership and Service Award. The award was given by the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, Norcross, Ga. Accompanying the award is the Joseph K. Perkins Prize which consists of a $1,000 scholarship donation to Spangenberg’s alma mater. Spangenberg has held several positions within TAPPI, and currently serves as on the finance committee of TAPPI’s board of directors. He organized the first Recycling Symposium and Exhibit in 1993 – a program that is now an annual event.
