Ely Enterprises, Cleveland, has named Ken Korney vice president of sales and marketing. Korney was previously the vice president of sales for International Baler Corp., Jacksonville, Fla. Also, Ely has promoted William Richardson from general manager to vice president of operations. Ely is a distributor of new and used recycling and waste compaction equipment.
COMMERCIAL METALS CO.
Dennis Arruebarrena has been appointed general manager of commercial Metal Co.’s Chattanooga, Tenn., recycling facility. Prior to joining CMC, Dennis was affiliated for 16 years with the Southern Holdings Group.
In addition, Bob Goins, previously manager of Chattanooga, is being assigned to the staff of Harry Heinkele, president of CMC’s Secondary Metals Processing Division.
INTERNATIONAL PRESS & SHEAR
International Press & Shear Corp., Baxley, Ga., has promoted Tom Leibold to the position of sales manager from his previous position as product sales manager for the IPS line of balers. Leibold will be responsible for the supervision of direct sales efforts, dealer training and the continued development of the IPS dealer organization.
AL-JON
Al-jon Inc., Ottumwa, Iowa, has appointed Ken Pratt president of Al-jon's newly-formed Solid Waste Division. Pratt comes to Al-jon after a 22-year career as vice president of operations for Caron Compactor Co. His responsibilities will include overseeing sales and marketing efforts of Al-jon’s 81K Landfill Compactor and further updates in the company’s solid waste product line.
BIRMINGHAM STEEL
Birmingham Steel Corp., Birmingham, Ala., has appointed Jim Nuckels as chief operating officer of Pacific Coast Recycling LLC – a joint venture formed in southern California by Birmingham Steel and an affiliate of Mitsui and Co. Ltd. to collect, process and sell scrap. Birmingham and the Mitsui affiliate each own a 50 percent interest in the joint venture. As COO, Nuckels will have full responsibility for the operations, administration and scrap purchasing of the venture.
Birmingham has also named Joseph Corso president of Birmingham Southeast LLC, responsible for operations at the company’s facilities in Jackson, Miss. and Cartersville, Ga.
STEEL RECYCLING INSTITUTE
The Steel Recycling Institute, Pittsburgh, has changed the focus of its marketing department. Now operating as Marketing Communications, the department will be led by Brian Tedeschi, former marketing manager, now director of marketing communications. Diane Capezio has been promoted to manager, marketing communications, with responsibility for containers and construction. Richard Tavoletti, also promoted to manager, marketing communications, will handle automotive and appliance applications.
ALCAN RECYCLING
Dr. Michael Thomas has been appointed director, technology and business development for Alcan Recycling, a division of Alcan Aluminum Corp., Montreal. Thomas will take up his new post at Alcan Recycling in Shelbyville, Tenn. He will oversee recycling technology and business strategy and lead the commercialization of Alcan’s Fluidized Bed Decoating Technology.
OMNISOURCE
Dan Rifkin has been appointed president and chief operating officer of OmniSource Corp., Fort Wayne, Ind. Rifkin is a third generation veteran of the scrap industry, and most recently was executive vice president and general manager of the Indiana Ferrous Group. OmniSource is a scrap metals management, brokerage and processing company.
CEDARAPIDS
Cedarapids has appointed Jeff Elliott program manager for the company’s crushing and screening division. Elliott will be responsible for the general management and administration of all matters within the division.
MARATHON
Marathon Equipment Co., Vernon, Ala., has appointed Fred Lauten director of Marathon’s International Sales. Marathon is a manufacturer of balers and compactors.
LINDEMANN
Bill Tigner has joined Lindemann Recycling Equipment Inc., Charlotte, N.C., as manager of shredder sales for the company’s newly-formed U.S. Shredder Division. He will be responsible for all sales of high-capacity shredder systems in North America.
WENDT CORP.
Wendt Corp., Tonawanda, N.Y., has named Louis Wallen sales and product manager for the Eldan line of tire recycling equipment, as well as new and used metal recycling equipment.
In addition, Jim Glover will fill the newly-created position of quality control engineer.
