UNITED SCRAP METAL INC.
Marsha Serlin, founder and CEO of United Scrap Metal Inc., Chicago, was recently presented with the 1998 John F. Kubik Humanitarian Award, presented by the Seguin Retarded Citizens Association (SRCA) of the Chicago area. Serlin was chosen for the award due to her involvement with several area non-profit agencies. Serlin has previously been recognized as Executive Woman of the Year by the accounting and management consulting firm Grant Thornton LLP and as a 1996 Subcontractor of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
MUNICIPAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
Municipal Waste Management, LLC (MWM), Atlanta, has announced that Brad Avery and Joel Ford have been appointed as territory managers. Avery will represent the company in Georgia and Tennessee, while Ford covers North and South Carolina.
"With Brad’s municipal and hauling background and Joel’s great track record in the hauling industry, our sales force is complete," says Mike Donohoo, sales manager, MWM. "We offer sensible landfill alternatives, from the small roll-off container to larger recycling systems and regional waste processing facilities."
Avery began his career with the City of Roswell, Ga., where he started a public drop-off center and a curbside collection program. He later worked as general manager of Tomahawk Recycling, Inc., where he oversaw the daily management of transportation, sales, marketing and a material processing facility.
Ford started his career with Waste Management of Atlanta. As an account executive his responsibilities encompassed key account territory management, sales and marketing with a special focus on profitability and account retention.
MWM is a design-build firm engaged in marketing and general management of turnkey projects in the waste services industry.

Joseph P. Mazza has been named president and CEO of Raytheon Engineers & Constructors, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Most recently, he served as deputy to the president and general manager of Raytheon subsidiary Cedarapids Inc.
Raytheon Engineers & Constructors is a worldwide organization that brings industry and government projects to reality. Cedarapids Inc. is a worldwide manufacturer of crushing and screening systems, hot mix asphalt systems and asphalt paving equipment.

Industrial Services of America Inc., Louisville, Ky., has appointed three new members to its board of directors. Added to the ISA board are Dr. Barry N. Naft, president and CEO of ARInternational Inc., Potomac, Md.; Michael Devereaux, president of The Devereaux Co. Inc., Louisville, Ky.; and Joseph H. Cohen, managing partner in the Louisville law firm of Morris, Garlove, Waterman & Johnson PLLC.
CATERPILLAR INC.
Donald V. Fites, CEO of Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, Ill., will be the keynote speaker at the American Iron and Steel Institute’s (AISI) 1998 General Meeting. This year’s AISI General Meeting is being held in Toronto May 20 and 21. Fites is credited with helping lead Caterpillar successfully into the global marketplace. Since becoming chairman and CEO of Caterpillar in 1990, Fites has helped the heavy equipment maker increase its revenues 44% to $16.5 billion annually. The company’s annual profits have also increased six-fold to $1.13 billion in 1996.
