Richard Gaare has been named regional sales manager for Ely Enterprises’ Chicago office. He previously worked as a sales and marketing manager at Alcoa Inc. and will be responsible for the sale of used and new industrial recycling equipment for Chicago and the surrounding areas.

SUSTAINABLE JOBS FUND

The Sustainable Jobs Fund (SJF), Philadelphia, Pa., and Durham, N.C., has announced staff additions and promotions at both of its offices.

• Rick Larson added as a new associate. He will be based in the Durham office.

• Bonny A. Moellenbrock added as finance manager, also based in the Durham office.

• Larry D. Waddell has been promoted to managing director, based in the Philadelphia office.

• Anne Claire Broughton has been promoted to the new position of community development manager. She is based in the North Carolina office.

The Sustainable Jobs Fund is a community development venture capital fund that invests in companies, including those that provide end markets for recyclables, in the Eastern U.S. and that provide quality entry-level employment.

RRT DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

Ernest H. Ruckert has been named vice president of RRT Design & Construction, Melville, N.Y. He has more than 23 years experience as a professional engineer and will be responsible for project development and contract administration.

MARYLAND RECYCLERS COALITION

Carrie Capuco has been named executive director for the Maryland Recyclers Association, Annapolis. She has more than 15 years of experience in the environmental field and has worked with the US EPA. She has also served as the key technical staff for supporting the EPA’s Office of Solid Waste Jobs Through Recycling Initiative.

THE RUMPKE CO.

The founders of The Rumpke Co., Cincinnati, have been honored with an induction into the Environmental Industry Association Hall of Fame. William F. Rumpke and Bernard Rumpke were awarded the honor, with sons William J. Rumpke and Thomas B. Rumpke accepting the award at a presentation in Atlanta. Rumpke is the eighth largest waste hauler in the nation and a leading recycler in the Midwest.

OLYMPIC STEEL INC.

Olympic Steel Inc., Cleveland, has named David A. Wolfort, the company’s chief operating officer, as president. Wolfort joined Olympic Steel in 1984 and will continue as a director and as COO.

RUBBERMAID COMMERICAL PRODUCTS

Mike Moorefield has been named president of Rubbermaid Commercial Products, (RCP), Winchester, Va. Previously, Moorefield was vice president of sales for the Americas for RCP.

“Mike is ideal for this position,” says Joseph Ramos, Newell Rub-bermaid group president of plastic storage and organization products.

“He is a strong leader, an expert in consultative selling and he has a thorough knowledge of the commercial products industry.”

IN MEMORIAM:

Harry Simms, founder of longtime Cleveland scrap dealership Parkwood Iron & Metal, died in mid-February. Simms is survived by three sons, 10 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Simms started in the scrap business in the 1930s, and helped build the 15-acre business that became Parkwood Iron & Metal, which was later operated by his sons Stuart, Ronnie and Michael. Parkwood was sold to Detroit-based Ferrous Processing & Trading Corp. last year.
