COLUMBIA FORGE AND MACHINE WORKS INC.
Douglas W. McMullin was named as general manager of the Columbia Forge and Machine Works Inc., Portland, Ore.
McMullin is a son of one of the three co-founders of Columbia Forge and has worked at the company since his teenage years, with the exception of time off to obtain an engineering degree from the University of Portland and time in military service. McMullin has worked at Columbia Forge as the manufacturing engineer since 1981.
Columbia Forge is a specialty steel forging plant that makes a variety of steel, aluminum and brass forgings with several applications, including railroad car handrails, brake pins, retainer bars, twist locks, flange assemblies, bits, bolts, spindles, latches and nuts. It is a division of Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc., Portland, Ore.
LEVAND STEEL & SUPPLY CORP.
John J. Martinek has been appointed vice president of Levand Steel & Supply Corp., Irondale, Ala.
Martinek, a veteran product development and sales specialist for the international ferrous shredding industry, joins Levand as a special commodities broker-trader. He will be responsible for special products trading activities worldwide.
COMMERCIAL METALS CO.
Jonathan R. Fisher has joined the Secondary Metals Processing Division of Commercial Metals Co. (CMC) as a red metals trader in its marketing group. Previously Fisher was employed as a metals trader with Metal Commodities Inc., St. Louis, and prior to that was manager of scrap purchasing for Cerro Copper Products Co. in Sauget, Ill.
CMC’s Secondary Metals Processing Division is one of the largest processors of ferrous and nonferrous metals in the U.S. The recycled metals are sold to steel mills, specialty steel mills, high temperature alloy manufacturers, foundries, aluminum refineries and mills, and other consumers.
NORTH STAR STEEL
North Star Steel Co., Minneapolis, has announced two top management personnel changes. Steve Filips, vice president of operations since June 1996, has been named executive vice president for steel making operations at North Star Steel. Jon Ruth, executive vice president since January 1996, will now supervise North Star Recycling and information technology. He will continue his responsibilities for sales strategy and marketing activities for all North Star Steel mills.
