NPE NAMES OFFICIAL PLASTICS RECYLERThe Society of the Plastics Industry has selected Maine Plastics Inc., North Chicago, Ill., as "Official Recycler of NPE 2003," the major plastics industry trade show taking place June 23-27 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
The processor and distributor of secondary resins will team up with environmental education training company Eco Educators, Columbus, Ohio, to collect scrap generated by NPE exhibitors.
Maine Plastics and Eco Educators collected more than 350,000 pounds of plastics at NPE 2000, recycling it at Maine Plastics’ 200,000-square foot processing plant.
"We are hoping to involve 100 percent of the exhibitors who generate scrap and increase the percentage of materials collected and recycled at NPE 2003," Robert Render, president of Maine Plastics, says.

GLASS
FROM BEER BOTTLE TO TERAZZO FLOORINGAmerican Terrazzo Company, Garland, Texas, has accepted the City of Plano, Texas 's challenge to use the abundance of post-consumer recycled glass from Melissa, Texas.
Currently, more than 40 tons of post-consumer glass are processed each month for the City of Plano. Trinity Waste Services and City of Plano Officials have been seeking markets for the crushed recycled glass.
American Terrazzo Company markets the recycled glass flooring under the name of EnviroGLAS Terrazzo. The flooring uses glass and colorful epoxy resins to produce variegations and qualifies for Green Building/LEEDS program.
