The American Plastics Council (APC), Arlington, Va., has released a report detailing a plastics recovery pilot project conducted by the APC and MBA Polymers, Richmond, Calif. County to Bottle Merits of Plastics Recycling

Lucas County, Ohio, commissioners have approved buying 50,000 water bottles with recycled content. The green plastic bottles, which will cost about $22,500, will be used in efforts to educate people, particularly schoolchildren, about the value of recycling and of having a concern for the environment in the county.

John Minear, Lucas County solid waste district coordinator, says the bottles will have a label stating “Green Rules” to catch people’s attention. He says the bottles will be produced by Plastic Technologies, Inc., Holland, Ohio, and the educational program probably will begin in March.

Lucas County sells the plastic bottles it collects to firms that wash it and grind it and sell the flake.
