RecycleBank Continues to Grow its Business
RecycleBank, with U.S. headquarters in New York City, has announced that it continues to grow its business by partnering in a program with the online retailer eBay.
The eBay collaboration takes the RecycleBank program beyond curbside recycling, offering 50 RecycleBank points to consumers joining eBay’s Green Team community, according to a company news release. Additionally, RecycleBank members will soon be able to use their RecycleBank points for discounts on eBay purchases.
Amy Skoczlas Cole, director of the eBay Green Team, says, “Thousands of eBay sellers have built successful businesses by recycling, re-using and re-selling products that already exist and may otherwise have ended up in landfills. Our relationship with RecycleBank offers an innovative way to encourage and reward green-conscious consumers who are looking for more sustainable ways to shop.”
In related news, RecycleBank and Allied Waste have announced that Helena, Ala., has become the first city in that state to use the recycling incentive program.
Through the program, offered by Allied Waste Services of Birmingham, Helena residents will receive rewards for recycling with RecycleBank. Allied Waste says it expects to have 10,000 households enrolled in the program by this summer and may expand the program throughout Shelby County.
Starting Feb. 3, Allied Waste trucks began reading the identification tags during recycling pick up and recording the weight of recyclables. RecycleBank converts the weight of the collected recyclables by household into points that can be used for discounts at hundreds of area businesses.
The new recycling program also includes single-stream collection of recyclables. Allied Waste accepts plastics 1-3, plastic milk and detergent jugs, steel and aluminum cans, newspaper, cardboard, boxes and paper products for recycling through the program.
