Pacific Steel & Recycling, a scrap recycler and steel service center based in Great Falls, Mont., recently held a grand opening in honor of its first auto shredder.
The company, with 38 locations in the Western United States, installed its first auto shredder at a greenfield location in Elmore County, Idaho. The auto shredder is a 3,000-horsepower model from Texas Shredder.
Ray Wahlert, president and CEO of Pacific Steel & Recycling, says the company has processed approximately 1,100 tons of scrap metal daily with the auto shredder.
The yard also handles nonferrous metals and other recyclable commodities.
The yard is on 9 acres in a rural area of Idaho. Wahlert says the company purchased a total of 40 acres, distancing the yard from other businesses or residences in the area.
The facility cost approximately $16 million to build, including nearly $6.5 million for the auto shredder.
