In addition to aluminum alloys, Allied produces a wide range of zinc alloys, including Zamak, slush casting alloy, GM ACuZinc and zinc-aluminum. Allied zinc alloys are available in ingot, “margache” and sow form. The company’s zinc alloy production capacity is nearly 65 million pounds annually.
Allied is committed to focusing on manufacturing innovations that will help it keep producing at the lowest cost, giving the firm a competitive edge over rivals who shun making such investments. One recent expenditure: newly installed flow pumps that substantially reduce scrap melting time, allowing Allied to process more metal per hour while it consumes less energy.
Allied is global trader in various grades of magnesium scrap, as well as silicon metal in qualities ranging from smelter grade to low calcium and low iron grades. Joel Fink suggests, “We are well-positioned to trade virtually any material that is capable of producing a reasonable margin for us.”
Allied also offers the metal industry independent spectrographic laboratory services, implemented through an online network that links all the company’s plants for instantaneous and precise data-sharing. This ensures enterprise-wide compliance with industry-standard and customer-specific alloy compositions.
The company is credited with a number of industry firsts. Prominent among these is the Allied Mobile Furnace, a truck trailer equipped with a crucible containing 40,000 pounds of molten aluminum and special burners to maintain the metal’s liquefied state. The rig can be temporarily consigned to a customer’s die casting plant under a contractual agreement.
