Welcome to
Recycling Today’s Magnetic Separation Guide – the third of four special equipment guides we are producing in 1997. These guides are designed to help recyclers make the best choices for purchasing and upgrading critical equipment.Recyclers rely on a variety of different types of equipment. But the magnet is the backbone of the industry, whether it is a lifting magnet used to move materials; magnetic separators such as pulleys, suspended magnets, and drums; eddy current separators used for nonferrous material; or electrostatic separators for separating metallics from nonmetallics in wire chopping scrap or other applications.
All of these topics are discussed in this guide. In addition, we have assembled a glossary of terms and a directory of manufacturers and major suppliers.
We are grateful to Al Gedgaudas, recycling equipment manager for Eriez Magnetics, Erie, Pa., for help in assembling the guide, along with articles and photos; William Barrett, director of new product development for Dings Co. Magnetic Group, Milwaukee, for an article; Richard Grisier, manager of the Magnetics Division of Huron Valley Steel, Belleville, Mich., for an article; Don Morgan, product manager-separation equipment for Walker Magnetics Group, Milwaukee., for an article; Dr. Rainer Kohnlechner, owner of HAMOS Electronik GmbH, Penzberg, Germany for an article; Robert Carver, manager of the recycling and plastics division of CARPCO, Jacksonville, Fla., for an article; and Marshall Gralnick, president of Global Equipment Marketing Inc., Boca Raton, Fla., for photos.
