Kafus Industries Ltd. created Kafus Molded Fibers LLC, a company that will manufacture molded fiberboard, a strong, lightweight honeycomb panel produced from 100 percent recycled fiber as well as other sustainable raw materials. MFB panels have the bending strength of particleboard at one-third the weight.
The Forest Products Laboratory developed the MFB panel technology.
Kafus Molded Fibers LLC, headquartered in Columbia, S.C., plans to build its first MFB panel plant in South Carolina this year.
The technology facilitates production of structural honeycomb products similar to aluminum and composite alternatives, from much lower cost raw materials, including 100 percent recovered fiber, as well as various agricultural fibers.
