Installations

LINDEMANN

The largest scrap shear ever sold in America by Lindemann Recycling Equipment Inc., Charlotte, N.C., has been installed at a facility of Marine Terminals of Arkansas in Blytheville, Ark. The 1,500-ton Lindemann LU-1250-15 PA 90 6 x125 horsepower scrap shear will be used by Marine Terminals of Arkansas to process between 10,000 and 12,000 tons of scrap beams per month.

The large shear is being shipped to Arkansas on a lash barge. Manufactured by Lindemann’s parent company in Dusseldorf, Germany, the shear was shipped on the lash barge via an ocean carrying vessel. From there, it will be off-loaded and set in the Mississippi River. The lash barge will then be tugged to Blytheville where it will be off-loaded and assembled at the Marine Terminals of Arkansas site.

“Not only is this hydraulic scrap shear the largest Lindemann has ever sold in America, but the shipping method to the customer is very unique,” notes Gunn Phillips, vice president of sales for Lindemann. “By shipping the shear on a lash barge, we have eliminated any further handling of the shear after it leaves the manufacturing site.”

The shear has an effective cutting force of 1,500 tons, with a 59-inch wide knife, according to Phillips. It can obtain up to seven cuts per minute with a maximum of 60-ton-per-hour throughout capacity. The shear comes equipped with a 30-foot-long three-dimensional compression box, has the fastest cutting cycle of any comparable shear with its cutting force, has more positive material control than any comparable shear of its size, and is simpler to operate since it has fewer moving parts, according to Lindemann.

In other news, Annaco Inc., Akron, Ohio, has installed a Lindemann RAM II model 1127-100S3 baler. The baler replaces Annaco’s old briquetter which had produced a less marketable product and was half as fast, according to the company. The Lindemann baler is capable of processing 20 tons per hour of nonferrous materials. This installation marks Lindemann’s first RAM II baler for nonferrous metals in the U.S.

HARRIS WASTE MANAGEMENT

Harris Waste Management Group Inc., Peachtree City, Ga., is currently installing 34 Selco V5-R vertical balers for Smurfit Carton y Papel of Mexico, a transnational company owned by Jefferson Smurfit, Alton, Ill. The company plans to install the balers at various customers’ sites.

Another recent Harris installation was completed at Silver State Recycling, Las Vegas, Nev. The company purchased a Harris HRB-1035W two-ram baler for processing old corrugated cartons, high-grade office paper, and some metals and plastics. Also, Silver State purchased a Mosely HLBA-111-AP two-ram baler from Harris.
