MAC/SATURN SHREDDERS
Sales of four heavy-duty Saturn shredders for use in U.S. government based applications head the list of the latest installations of equipment from MAC Corporation/Saturn Shredders, Grand Prairie, Texas. Sold through the Defense Construction Supply Center, the mobile Saturn Model 72-46HTs are slated for operation in bases in Washington, Hawaii, Japan and Germany.
The shredders, each powered by a 525 horsepower diesel engine, will be processing a wide range of materials for recycling or disposal, including scrap tires, munitions boxes, office equipment, flak jackets and desks.
“There is an incredible amount of material at these sites which has been deemed by the U.S. government to be unserviceable and/or unsalable in its current form,” says Damon Dedo, MAC/Saturn’s director of sales. “These are hearty shredders and to date, they have processed virtually everything fed to them. Obviously, the mobility of the units also played a big role in their sale.”
ALTEK INTERNATIONAL
Altek International Inc., Exton, Pa., has installed its aluminum dross recycling equipment, The Press, at Hydro Aluminium, Holemstrand, Norway; Makela Alu Oy, Luoma-aho, Finland; Hydro Aluminium, Luce, France; and Comalco Aluminium, Bell Bay, Australia.
Other international installations of The Press were made in late 1995 by Salzburger Aluminum, Lend, Austria; Somet s.p.a., Bergamo, Italy; Rheinfeldon Aluminium, Rheinfeldon, Germany; and Alumax Recycling, Kerkrade, Holland.
According to the company, the new installations reflect Altek’s growing international presence, which complements its existing domestic presence.
SIERRA INTERNATIONAL
Sierra International Machinery, Bakersfield, Calif., has installed a new single RAM horizontal press at its sister company, Sierra Iron & Metal. The press can process a wide range of materials including plastics, aluminum and tin cans.
“The press is the first of its kind in the United States, and we are really excited about the installation,” says John Sacco, president of Sierra International Machinery. “There are only two units operating right now in the world, and we have one. The other one is in Italy.” The machine is made by MacPresse, Quebec, and Sacco says that his company is working on getting the press patented in the U.S.
On another front, Sierra International has also penetrated the paper market by installing its first mini-material recovery facility in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. The installation was completed last December.
