Vecoplan opens new test lab

Vecoplan LLC, Archdale, North Carolina, has christened its new test lab, which it describes as “an integral part of Vecoplan’s continuing expansion.”

The lab serves two functions vital to Vecoplan’s long-term goals, according to the company. “First it provides a practical hands-on environment to test the feasibility and ensure the quality of our R&D efforts,” says Gary Kolbet, vice president of engineering, Vecoplan.

Bob Gilmore, Vecoplan chief sales officer, adds, “But, just as important, the test lab is set up to provide real-world conditions in which customers can view their own waste materials being processed—from feeding through shredding and discharge/separation.”

The new test lab contains a representative selection of four of Vecoplan’s most popular shredders and a plastics granulator, according to Vecoplan. The lab also is configured with an open slot to allow for the installation of other machines on an as-needed basis. One of the semipermanent machines is horizontally fed, while four are vertically fed via hoppers. The horizontal shredder, a VTH-VU, is equipped with a vibration feed conveyor and pneumatic discharge system.

The hopper-fed shredders include a VAZ 1600 M XL T, a V-ECO 1300 and a VAZ 1300 M NewGen. Vecoplan says the shredders were selected to demonstrate a range of feed opening sizes, horsepower drive options and material shredding capabilities, including plastics, paper, cardboard, wood, MSW (municipal solid waste) and general waste.

Specific shredders also feature patented Vecoplan innovations, such as the SureCut Film & Fiber shredding system and the energy-saving HiTorc electromagnetic drive technology.

According to Len Beusse, chief operating officer of Vecoplan, “The decision to invest in a test lab of this caliber was based on customers’ desire for precise size reduction solutions involving direct testing of their exact materials and demonstration of the exact shredder models they are purchasing.”

Vecoplan is a leading manufacturer of industrial grinding, shredding and size reduction equipment. More information is available at www.vecoplanllc.com.

Toter introduces 12-year cart-body warranty

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wastequip’s Toter brand, a leading manufacturer of two-wheel carts for curbside collection of waste, recycling and organics, has a 12-year cart-body warranty, which it says is the longest warranty in the industry. Good on all Toter two-wheel carts sold to municipal or waste hauling company customers, the new 12-year cart-body warranty is two years longer than those offered by the company’s competitors, allowing municipal customers to save money and significantly decrease their total cost of ownership through significantly longer replacement cycles, Toter says. The 12-year warranty covers the cart body; all other cart components are covered up to 10 years.

Toter carts are produced through a patented molding technology known as advanced rotational molding. According to Toter, this process ensures a longer service life (15 to 20 years on average) and uses less plastic than other methods.

“Because Toter works closely with municipalities throughout the country, we know that there is unprecedented pressure on them to do more with less, to decrease costs and to reduce their carbon footprints,” says Jim Pickett, vice president of Toter sales. “Our carts are designed to be tougher and to last longer, which means they need to be replaced less often—reducing the hassle of calls and complaints, keeping old carts out of landfills and saving time and money.”

According to Toter, while many municipalities allow their waste management service providers to select their trash cart vendors, an increasing number of municipalities have chosen to work directly with trash cart manufacturers to address specific requirements, such as those outlined above, or in response to a need for specialized carts, such as animal-proof options.

The company says it offers cooperative purchasing through National Intergovernmental Purchasing Alliance.

Dodge Center, Minnesota-based McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corp. company, has introduced a refurbishment program for Curotto-Can branded automated carry cans through Street Smart Service designed to extend the life span of the product.

The refurbishment program delivers new equipment reliability at a far lower cost than purchasing new, according to the company. Shared Logic announces rental program

Holland, Ohio-based The Shared Logic Group Inc. has announced its RIMAS (Recycling Industry Management and Accounting System) rental program, which was designed as a way to keep initial costs low for prospective customers.

With the RIMAS rental program, customers get to use all of the same features of the full software program. Low monthly payments allow users the ability to comply with laws and increase efficiency without a significant initial investment. With a minimal commitment, the RIMAS Rental Program is affordable for any size yard and also can be cloud-based, according to Shared Logic.

“Our rental program was designed to broaden our reach of clients,” says Perry Jacobs, president and CEO of Shared Logic. “With a rental program, prospective customers can try our software without a lengthy long-term commitment. This allows them to use our product and see firsthand the benefits it comes with. Depending on the size of the rental license, we also have the option to potentially host their software for them, eliminating any initial investment for a server.”

The Shared Logic Group has been providing the recycling industry with accounting and management software solutions since 1982. While the company says its offices are in a quiet part of northwest Ohio, its reach is nationwide, with more than 3,000 licensed users.

Since the introduction of RIMAS, Shared Logic says its products have expanded to meet the changing needs of a technology-driven marketplace and now include electronic document management and Web-based products. In addition to RIMAS, Shared Logic offers the following product expansions:

  • RIMAS MMC (equipment management costing);
  • RIMAS Online (online access for trading partners);
  • Trader Inquiry (dynamic access to company data); and
  • E-Doc Executive (electronic document storage and retrieval).

The Shared Logic Group also says it has created integrated equipment add-ons for its software that give users the ability to capture signatures, fingerprints and information from drivers’ licenses electronically.

Granutech offers new rubber recycling mill design

Grand Prairie, Texas-based Granutech-Saturn Systems has launched a new scrap rubber refiner mill design, featuring sealed roller bearings for greater tolerances in processing material down to 80 mesh.

The company says its new G4X offers a “first-to-market ‘grease-free’ sealed roller bearing design” that “runs cooler and more efficiently and eliminates grease pump and lubricant expenses.”

The G4X is a next-generation product to Granutech’s G4 mill but features “a completely unique sealed roller bearing design that provides significant benefits over the industry’s traditional bushing design mills,” according to the company.

“Reduced bearing temperature means this design runs cooler and more efficiently than traditional bushing-design competitive mills, resulting in less energy used for external cooling,” says Mike Hinsey, Granutech-Saturn Systems vice president.

“The ‘sealed’ bearing design eliminates the need for continuous lubricant, resulting in significant operational and consumables savings,” he adds.

The Saturn G4X mill is ideal for production of fine granulate powder for applications such as rubberized asphalt and molded product or filler materials, Granutech says.
