Sennebogen Opens New Production Facility in Germany
The Sennebogen Group has officially opened its newest production facility in Straubing, Germany. Plans for the new plant, scaled at around 1.35 million square feet, were first announced last February. Investment in the project totaled $48 million.
Phase one of the facility, which includes a 140,000-square-foot equipment assembly hall, is now operational. Erich Sennebogen, owner and managing director of the company, says the development was undertaken to add capacity for large-scale machines.
A good portion of the equipment manufactured will go to meet growing demand from Sennebogen America.
According to Constantino Lannes, president of Sennebogen America, "In a few short years, we have seen Sennebogen material handlers become the preferred choice in America’s material handling industry."
The Plant Two assembly hall will allow for the production, erection and testing of the machines with operating weights of up to 300 tons. Advanced management processes are supporting increased planning reliability, shorter turnaround and faster delivery times, the company says. The site includes a 54,000-square-foot administration building. The new site also provides for future expansions of up to 22 million square feet.
Plant One in Straubing will continue as the company’s main office with central administration areas. The production of Sennebogen OEM carriers, worldwide spare parts distribution and customer support will also continue at Plant One.
With the completion of Plant Two, the company has four production plants, three of which are in Germany and one in Hungary, staffed by 1,000 engineers, skilled workers and support personnel. Plant Two employs nearly 350 people.
Eriez Introduces Magnetic Drum SeparatorsThe new electromagnetic and permanent magnetic drum separators from Eriez Magnetics, Erie, Pa., enable automatic, continuous separation of ferrous materials from high-volume and heavy-duty applications, according to the company.
The magnetic drum separators are designed for the removal of ferrous material from shredded automobiles, bottom ash, slag and other recyclable scrap, including chips, turnings and stampings.
"Eriez engineers designed these drums to stand up to even the harshest conditions," says Dan Norrgran, heavy industries market manager for Eriez Magnetics.
Two types of electromagnetic drums are available. The All Electro Agitator uses a deep-field rectangular-core pickup magnet to reach out and grasp ferrous material and a second rectangular-core agitator magnet to flip or agitate the ferrous, cleaning it of contaminants, such as loose mud, paper, fluff and trash. A double-drum scheme with counter rotation is designed to provide maximum cleaning.
Eriez also builds a non-agitating transfer design that uses a deep-field radial pickup magnet to convey or transfer the ferrous around the drum shell to the discharge area. When used in top-feed schemes, these drums can provide maximum recovery, according to the company.
All permanent deep-field magnetic drum designs use Erium permanent magnets to project a magnetic field capable of removing ferrous from distances of up to 15 inches. The permanent non-electric scrap drums can be used in applications with limited or unstable electrical power.
A wide variety of diameters, widths and magnetic strengths are available.
In addition to its headquarters, Eriez also has manufacturing facilities in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, India, Japan, Mexico and South Africa.

The new facility has a crane capacity of up to 80 tons and is expected to double the capacity of Metso’s Ohio operations, according to the company. The new facility is near the company’s existing engineering and manufacturing facility in Brunswick, Ohio.
The expansion is part of the company’s ongoing effort to be the preferred supplier of precision-engineered equipment and systems for North America’s metal recycling industry, according to Metso.
