Metso Minerals Industries Inc. has announced plans for a major expansion of its manufacturing operations in Brunswick, Ohio, in the northeast portion of the state.
The new fabrication facility will produce Lindemann scrap metal shears and small shredders and will provide a rebuilding service for rotors used in automobile shredders. It will be in Northeast Ohio near the company’s existing engineering and manufacturing facility in Brunswick.
The company says it expects the new facility to be online in the spring of 2008. It will have a total crane capacity of 80 tons and is expected to double the fabrication capacity of Metso Minerals Industries’ Ohio operations.
To support the increased production, the company has added personnel in the automation, mechanical design, electrical design and controls departments, along with control panel building and assembly.
The expansion is part of the company’s ongoing effort to be a supplier of precision-engineered, turnkey systems for North America’s metal recycling industry.
The Brunswick operation (formerly BEST Inc.) was acquired by Metso in March 2007 and since the beginning of 2008 has increased its fabrication capacity by 100 percent.
"This expansion gives us the platform to continually grow and introduce new and innovative recycling products in the future," says Tim Conway, Metso Recycling vice president of marketing and business development.
The existing Brunswick facility produces the complete line of BEST recycling equipment, including nonferrous systems; Enviro-Clean de-dusting systems; shredder isolation mounts; metering drum feeders, undermill, magnet and ESC feeders; screeners; water injection; shredder controls; and BESTView production management software.
Stanley LaBounty Announces Improvements to Saber Lube Series ShearsStanley LaBounty, Two Harbors, Minn., has announced several improvements to its Saber Lube Series Shears.
The shears now feature improved, high-pressure and high-volume grease pumps for consistent grease flow to various grease points. The Saber Lube Series Shears also feature more grease points for more consistent greasing along the entire blade surface, resulting in lower blade wear and better cutting efficiency, according to Stanley LaBounty. An application-specific, grease-metering system allows for adjustable (up to three times original design) in-flow to each grease point, depending upon the application.
The shears also feature a patented, four-bolt, 180-degree reversible saber tip on MSD 2500 through MSD 9500 models for longer life in severe duty applications, according to the company.
Saber Lube Series Shears are also equipped with patented reversible cylinders with a solid forged rod design.

Vecoplan Introduces New Mobile Document, Product Destruction SystemVecoplan LLC, High Point, N.C., has unveiled what it is calling the "shredding vehicle of tomorrow" at the 2008 NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
The VST-42e Mobile Document and Product Destruction System employs a compact PTO-driven 180kVA generator to power its shredding system instead of traditional hydraulics. Other features include QuickLink Plug-and-Play Docking Technology and the TaskMaster Application Management System. The VST-42e is also backed by Vecoplan’s Rapid Deployment 24-Hour Service Guarantee.
"QuickLink makes the VST-42e a true dual-duty shredding machine," according to Vecoplan. When deployed in the mobile mode, the PTO-driven compact generator component generates equipment power. The VST-42e can also be used as a stationary system when docked at a company’s plant or at a shred site by plugging into three-phase industrial power.
The TaskMaster feature is designed to optimize the shredding process for a variety of materials and includes five pre-programmed settings.
The system features a shredding capacity of from 6,000 to 7,000-plus pounds per hour, according to Vecoplan.
The VST-42e runs on ULSD and is B5 biodiesel-compatible for lower emissions. When running off the PTO, the truck uses half the diesel of a traditional PTO-driven hydraulic shredder system, according to Vecoplan, and when plugged into a stationary power source, it uses no diesel at all.
With the company’s Rapid Deployment guarantee, if a customer experiences a problem with its Vecoplan mobile document and product destruction system that requires on-site technical support during the warranty period, Vecoplan will have a service technician at the location within 24 hours or the entire service trip—parts, labor, freight and travel—is free.
