OmniSouce Buys Stainless Steel Separator

OmniSource Inc., Fort Wayne, Ind., has purchased a 96-inch-wide Stainless Steel Separator from Wendt Corp. for one of its Toledo, Ohio, locations.

The equipment, which will be installed in August, is designed to recover metals currently heading to the landfill, including stainless steel, copper windings and insulated and bare copper wire.

The separator, purchased with the Multi-Track option, permits primary separation on one side of the separator and on-line upgrading of the recovered metals on the unit’s other side.

OmniSource will be the first in the U.S. marketplace to use the Multi-Track option, which has been operating successfully in Europe and Japan for several years, according to Wendt Corp.

"OmniSource is always looking for a better way," Rick Chambers of OmniSource says.

"The Wendt / SSE Separator not only recovers more metal from the ASR in a very economical manner, but, in doing so, it also produces a more desirable ASR to be used as alternative daily cover at landfills," Chambers says of the new device.
