STEINERT ISS SYSTEM INSTALLED
Texas Shredder Inc. (TSI), San Antonio, Texas, in cooperation with Resource Recycling LLC, has sold a third-generation Steinert Induction Sorting System (ISS) unit to scrap recycler Davis Industries of Lorton, Va.
The ISS is designed to recover nonferrous materials and stainless steel from a mixed stream passing through an eddy current system. Specially designed sensors recognize the metals and activate air jets that "pop" the metals from the mixed stream.
The ISS unit will eliminate the need for manual picking and increase the nonferrous metals recovered, according to a TSI news release.
The ISS adds to Davis Industires’ processing equipment, which includes a 80/104 TSI dual discharge shredding system, an Alstom 3000 hp 500 rpm shredder duty motor, a Harris HRB baler, a 1,700-ton Vezanni shear and a Steinert eddy current system.
MOROS BALER HEADING TO CANADA
American Iron & Metal (AIM), Montreal, is purchasing a high-volume Moros baler to handle stainless steel scrap at its main facility in Montreal.
The Spanish-made Moros GC-S-800 baler was purchased by AIM through Moros North America, Louisville, Ky.
According to Ed List of Moros North America, the GC-S-800 can produce 24-inch by 24-inch by variable length bales with a density of 218 pounds per cubic foot. The machine uses 880 tons of baling force to produce bales every 50 seconds.
The AIM-bound baler is the second one to be installed this year, with another GC-S-800 having been sold to a Umicore facility in the city of Olen, Belgium.
That machine is currently making copper bales measuring 24 inches by 24 inches with a density of 280 pounds per cubic foot.
MAGNETECH DEBUTS THE "SCRAP STAR"
Magnetech Industrial Services, South Bend, Ind., is debuting its new "Scrap Star Series" Industrial Lifting Magnet at the ISRI Convention in Orlando, Fla., in April.
The Scrap Star Series magnets are engineered specifically to meet the requirements of scrap processing, foundry and steel mill processing operations, according to a Magnetech news release.
The cast steel, all-welded case design of the magnets minimizes the weight while maximizing lift-to-weight ratios without sacrificing strength and durability. The cast case design, which includes a high-impact-resistant heavy-duty manganese bottom plate, is made to withstand the conditions found in scrap yards and steel mills, according to Magnetech.
All Scrap Star magnets include three-leg conventional chain assembly and twist lock magnet plugs for easy installation.
Magnetech Industrial Services has grown, too, in the past 18 months and now operates six service center locations in South Bend, Indianapolis and Hammond, Ind., as well as in Boardman, Ohio; Mobile, Ala.; and Huntington, W. Va.
Magnetech sells and services industrial lifting magnets and power systems used in scrap yards, steel mills and steel processing centers.
The company has more than 40 years of experience in the magnet industry through its acquisition of the operating assets of Meade Industrial Services and Delta Star Electric. Magnets under the Meade and Delta Star names are still being manufactured by Magnetech.
The company exhibited at the ISRI Annual Convention in Orlando in April.
METSO SELLS SPIDER ROTOR
Metso Minerals Metal Recycling’s North American operations, based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has announced the sale of a shredder "spider-style" rotor.
Advanced Recycling of Concord, N.H., purchased the rotor, which incorporates Metso Minerals’ four-pin spider design featuring fully capped protection of the spiders and end discs. The rotor will be installed in Advanced Recycling’s Metso Minerals 6080 Scrap Shredder.
Company engineers say the benefits of the fully capped design include increased rotor longevity and that no welding is required throughout the lifetime of the rotor.
Bill Tigner, North American vice president and general manager, remarks, "This rotor assembly delivers 500,000 to 1 million tons or more of rotor life to many Metso Minerals Metal Recycling customers—much more than competitive designs available on today’s market."
The manufacturer claims it is the most aggressive, most easily fed rotor design available on the market today. Spider rotors can process through unshreddables that can leave some other rotors with broken grates, stretched bearing studs or other types of damage.
Besides complete replacement rotors, Metso Minerals also offers a line of shredder parts including hammers, spider caps, grates and liners.
CASTING FOR A WEB PRESENCE
Columbia Steel Casting Co. Inc., Portland, Ore., has unveiled new features at its Web site at www.columbiasteel.com.
According to the company, the site offers more photographs of products that can be viewed at a larger size for closer inspection.
Columbia Steel Casting Co. Inc. marketing communications manager Alan George says the new look, content and navigation features are the first of several planned for the site.
A "Scrap Shredding" section is one of about a half-dozen product areas with its own Web page on the site.
