Autocar Displays Xpeditor Trucks
Autocar LLC, Union City, Ind., has debuted the Autocar Xpeditor, a Class Eight low-cab-over-engine (LCOE) truck series used in waste and recycling collection and hauling applications at the 2002 WasteExpo show. WasteExpo took place May 21-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Models displayed included the WX, which can be used in waste and recycling applications, and the WXLL, which features a low step-in height that is particularly useful in residential pick up. Both models are noted for their driver-friendly environment, ease of maintenance and safety, according to the company.
In an exclusive interview with Recycling Today, Autocar president Bob Enright says the company’s focus on its core waste and recycling market will help it appeal to those industry segments. "Our customers are going to receive a lot more ‘tender loving care’ than other manufacturers can give," says Enright. "We’re closer to them by virtue of understanding the market. We’re smaller and there are fewer layers to go through to get communication to the customer and to listen to the customer."
Autocar LLC was formed in July 2001 when parent company Grand Vehicle Works Corp. purchased the Autocar name and the Xpeditor line from Volvo Trucks North America.
Terex Bolsters Lifting Division |
Fuchs scrap handlers are among the product lines that have been added to the Lifting Division of Terex Corp., Westport, Conn. The German-made scrap handlers were acquired by Terex as part of the acquisition of Atlas Weyhausen and the Schaeff Group earlier this year. “The acquisitions are an excellent fit with Terex’s strategy of diversifying both the products and geographic range of our customer offerings,” says Terex chair and CEO Ronald M. DeFeo. “The combination of Atlas and Schaeff will increase our penetration into Germany by adding approximately $250 million in annual German revenues and 60 independent dealers in a market where today we have limited presence, while also adding new products to the Terex portfolio.” In addition to the Fuchs line of scrap handlers, the Schaeff Group also makes mini and midi-excavators and wheel loaders, while Atlas makes larger excavators and truck-mounted cranes. In May, Terex announced another acquisition that will grow its Lifting Division, this time adding Germany-based Demag Mobil Cranes GmbH & Co. KG. DeMag makes and distributes telescopic and lattice boom cranes, and with $360 million in annual sales is one of the world’s leading mobile crane producers. “Demag has a leading market position in the 300-ton to 1,600-ton lattice-boom crane category, which compliments our existing product offering nicely and enables us to offer our customers a full line of lattice boom cranes with lifting capacities from 60 tons to 1,600 tons,” states DeFeo. |
