OmniSource Corp., Fort Wayne, Ind., will be installing a new automobile shredder plant at the former Loef Co. Inc. yard it recently acquired in Athens, Ga. The shredder is the first order received by Newell Riverside, Moline, Ill.
“We are very encouraged and excited about receiving our first shredder order only four months after the inception of our new company,” says Newell Riverside director of engineering Randy Brace.
Riverside Products, a long-time supplier of shredder rotors and wear parts, acquired the drawings and intellectual assets of the now defunct Newell Industries Inc. last year. Newell Riverside now operates from offices in Moline and in San Antonio, Texas, the former home of Newell Industries Inc. Newell Riverside is a subsidiary of Sivyer Steel Corp., Bettendorf, Iowa, one of the nation’s largest foundries.
OmniSource president Danny Rifkin believes the new shredder will be a key factor in the company’s ability to expand beyond its Great Lakes region base and into the Southeast. “With the addition of our new shredder, we are in a position to provide the quality product our consumers have come to expect from the OmniSource organization.”
John Marynowski, president of the OmniSource ferrous group, is also confident the shredder will help the company establish a foothold in the region. “As we expand our customer base in the Southeast, the OmniSource reputation for innovative service and highly competitive pricing will continue as we grow.”
In addition to the Athens yard, Marynowski notes that OmniSource has been operating a shredder for AmeriSteel in Tampa, Fla., for two years. “We do have the Jacksonville shredder at AmeriSteel, so we’ve been buying feedstock in the South for a couple of years.” Feedstock for the Athens shredder will be primarily auto bodies and sheet iron.
Fuchs Adds Dealer
Hayden-Murphy, Minneapolis, has been added as a new dealer of Fuchs scrap handlers. The new distributor will serve Minnesota, western Wisconsin and parts of Iowa. The Fuchs line includes seven models of rubber tired loaders and two crawler models.
