Newell Assets Purchased by Riverside Products

Sivyer Steel Corp., Bettendorf, Iowa, and its recycling division, Riverside Products, have purchased certain assets of Newell Industries Inc., San Antonio. Included in the purchase are the “Newell” name when associated with shredder manufacturing, intellectual property, all licenses, drawings, specifications, casting patterns, molds, flasks and fixtures, consumer lists and orders, and general intangibles associated with the business formerly conducted by Newell Industries.

“The Newell and Riverside businesses complement each other very well,” says Patrick J. Comparin, Riverside’s vice president and general manager. “We’ve already begun to integrate Newell’s ongoing shredder rotor and wear part sales efforts into our existing Riverside Product business.”

Hoist, Clark Pen Agreement

Hoist Liftruck Mfg. and Clark Material Handling Co. have announced that the companies have entered into a subcontract manufacturing agreement. The agreement specifies that Hoist Liftruck will be the exclusive sub-contract manufacturer for Clark’s line of heavy I.C. and electric lift trucks.

Clark and some of its affiliates are currently undergoing Chapter 11 reorganization.

“The agreement is the next step in the transition of production from our Lexington, Kentucky facility,” says Martin M. Dorio, chairman and CEO. “The transfer procedure will ensure all Clark customers are supported on a going forward basis.”

L.A. Facility Installs Scale House

Downtown Metal Center, Los Angeles, Calif., has installed a new scale house made by B.I.G Enterprises Inc., South El Monte, Calif.

“We have to handle up to 200 trucks coming in and out of this place all day, and the old scale house just wasn’t cutting it,” says Kevin Trant, yard manager for Downtown Metal Center. “We have to weigh each truck and grade the material as it comes in.”

The new scale house makes the weighing of trucks much more efficient, the company says and it is more aesthetically pleasing as well.
