While the title is new, the magazine professionals behind it are not entirely new to this business. GIE Media Inc. is a 23-year-old company that produces a range of periodicals, books and reference guides, Internet communications, conferences and other media services. As the publisher of Recycling Today magazine and the Paper Recycling Markets Directory, as well as the producer of the annual Paper Recycling Conference, we have been reporting on document destruction for decades.

Through getting more involved in the industry, we’ve experienced an exciting growth market that can benefit from a business magazine. To meet that need, SDB has been founded to serve the specialized informational needs of this unique and growing marketplace.

It will be published four times this year and complemented by a monthly E-Newsletter to provide late-breaking industry news. We’ve already begun meeting and talking with destruction company operators to gain insights on what’s most valuable for them in a magazine, and we welcome your input. We’ve also joined the industry’s trade association (The National Association for Information Destruction—NAID) and will work with it to help support and foster the market’s growth.

We’ve been heartened by the warm reception the industry has given us. The team at NAID has been great. Entrepreneurs and professionals throughout the industry have provided valuable insight and have been highly supportive of a business magazine for their industry. As a team of professionals, we’ll work hard to earn the industry’s respect.

So again, welcome to the first issue of SDB. As a magazine for professionals, by professionals, please let us know how we’re doing and what you would like to see in coming issues. You may contact any of us by phone, fax, e-mail or traditional "snail mail." We love to talk shop and look forward to serving this exciting and dynamic industry.
