The business information industry has as both its greatest blessing and its greatest concern that the world is changing rapidly in numerous ways.
The blessing is that as the recycling and scrap industries change, the audience for a steady stream of news and information is eager and growing. It’s not just commodities prices that are changing minute by minute, but the ownership and tactics of key trading partners.
The concern facing publishers and information providers is very similar to the one facing their readers in this circumstance: Is the company acting and reacting properly in the face of all the rapid changes?
At the Recycling Today Media Group, actions and reactions in the past 10 years have included moving beyond a monthly print product to offering additional publications in the demolition and secure destruction sectors as well as creating Web sites, e-newsletters and digital magazines and offering conferences.
In all of these endeavors, a consistent message from recyclers and industry suppliers is that the world has become a smaller place. Offshore demand for secondary commodities combined with a ramped up ocean-freight infrastructure has resulted in a more globalized industry.
For those reasons, the Recycling Today Global Edition is going to be launched in 2008 as a digital publication—a virtual magazine with pages that can be ‘turned’ and, if desired, printed.
The new publication will be e-mailed to subscribers throughout the world and, ideally, will be supported by equipment companies and traders who participate in the global recycling market.
Recycling Today’s current staff members will be involved in the writing, reporting and advertiser service for the new publication, but such a critical new product will also require specialized talent. It is with that in mind that the Recycling Today Media Group is proud to announce the addition of scrap trading veteran Larry Sax as an editorial consultant to our media group.
Larry has been a part of the recycling industry for nearly 50 years, trading scrap and secondary metals and serving industry organizations such as ISRI and the BIR as a top officer.
Recycling Today is excited to welcome Larry as key member of the Global Edition team. If you’re a trader or supplier with a global focus, you may hear from Larry in the coming months. Or, if you’d like to introduce yourself to Larry or to get re-acquainted because you’ve worked with him in the past, please contact Larry at lsax@gie.net.
Larry will be glad to hear from you as he sets out to begin making important new global connections on behalf of Recycling Today.
