RRT, AMERICAN ENTER AGREEMENT
Resource Recycling Technologies Inc., Vestal, N.Y., has entered into a joint agreement with American Power Corp., Bala Cynwyd, Pa., to design, build and operate a $16 million mixed office paper processing facility in Philadelphia. Paine Webber Inc. has underwritten the non-recourse financing of the project, to be known as American RRT Fiber Supply L.P.
RRT Design & Construction Corp., RRT’s wholly-owned engineering subsidiary, has entered into a $10 million turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract with the joint venture to build the new Philadelphia facility, using RRT’s proprietary mixed material recovery technology.
Construction is expected to be complete by the middle of the fourth quarter of 1995.
RPS AWARDED OLIN CONTRACT
RPS Industrial Metals Inc., Franklin Park, Ill., has been awarded a long term contract by Olin Ordnance to recycle military metals. Olin Ordnance is a defense contractor that won government contracts to demilitarize large quantities of small arms, cartridge ammo and large-caliber projectiles.
RPS has been contracted to serve as marketing consultant and broker for the numerous grades of scrap metals to be accumulated across the country.
SOUTHWIRE FOLDS GASTON COPPER
Southwire Co., Carrollton, Ga., has folded its Gaston Copper Recycling Corp. into its Carrollton operation. Some speculate this move will result in less need for scrap but more purchases of cathode, as the company will have less capacity to produce both cathode and anode. Southwire closed the Gaston plant due to difficulty operating the facility profitably, according to reports.
LINDEMANN NAMES QUALITY AS DISTRIBUTOR
Lindemann Recycling Equipment Inc., Charlotte, N.C., has named Quality Recycling Equipment Inc., Hendersonville, N.C., a distributor for Lindemann’s line of refuse treatment and waste processing equipment in North and South Carolina.
As a distributor, Quality Recycling will market Lindemann’s line of one and two RAM balers, shredders, shears, trommels, briquetters, Eddy Current separators, conveyors and complete recycling plants. In addition to the company’s Hendersonville office, Quality Recycling has field service representatives in other locations throughout the Southeast.
"The appointment of Quality Recycling Equipment Inc. as a distributor is part of our overall corporate objective of broadening our field representation as the grassroots level to more efficiently service our customer needs," says Joe Szany, sales manager for Lindemann.
BIRMINGHAM ANNOUNCES STOCK BUYBACK
The Board of Directors of Birmingham Steel Corp., Birmingham, Ala., has authorized the repurchase of up to 2.95 million shares, or approximately 10 percent of the company’s outstanding stock. The purchase may be made in the open market from time to time over the next three years, at prices not to exceed $30 per share.
COUNT, WALKER DEVELOP MARKETING AGREEMENT
Count Recycling Systems, Des Moines, Iowa, and O.S. Walker, Milwaukee, have developed a manufacturing and marketing agreement establishing Count as the exclusive distributor of Walker Eddy Current Separator pulleys for all aluminum can applications involving material recovery facilities or mixed waste processing facilities.
Count uses the Walker eddy current technology in its Steady Eddy aluminum can separator, of which 16 units are already in operation.
"This agreement will provide MRF Eddy Current Separator customers with an established network of sales, installation and service representatives," says Dick Longo, Walker sales manager. "It brings Count’s record of proven success in the design and installation of commingled sortation systems together with Walker’s many years of experience in the manufacture of magnetic separation equipment."
DAVIS-STANDARD ACQUIRES REPIQUET EXTRUSION
Davis-Standard, Pawcatuck, Conn., has acquired the plastics and rubber extrusion business of McNeil Akron Repiquet S.A.r.l. According to Davis-Standard president Robert Ackley, the acquisition of Repiquet Extrusion reinforces Davis-Standard’s growing presence in the European plastics and rubber extrusion market with local sales, customer services and a manufacturing facility located in Dannemarie, France and a sales, engineering and service office in the Paris area to further support the Repiquet Extrusion European sales base.
WENDT CORP. TAKES ON ELDAN RECYCLING LEADERSHIP
Wendt Corp., Tonawanda, N.Y., has assumed sole North American dealership of Eldan Recycling Tire Shredding Systems. As part of the agreement, Wendt's product line will include Eldan's modular tire shredding systems, designed for flexibility and modification as the processor's needs evolve.
In addition, Wendt will distribute Eldan's HR122 Rasper, engineered for high-volume applications, as well as processing systems designed to reduce tires to 20-40 mesh crumb rubber, free of steel and fabric.
MRF-ENERGY RECOVERY PLANT BUILT TOGETHER
The first privately-initiated project to build a material recovery facility in the same site as an energy recovery plant has begun operating in Falls Township, Pa., according to Wheelabrator Technologies , Hampton, N.H.
