Finland-based Valmet Oyj has announced it will supply recycled-content paperboard making technologies to Sri Andal Paper Mills for its new containerboard line in Tamil Nadu, India. The startup of the paper machine and line is scheduled for the first half of 2021.

According to a Valmet news release, the line will produce recycled-content liner, fluting and corrugated kraft at an annual capacity 200,000 metric tons.

“It was vitally important for us that the management-level relationship with Valmet was very good,” says P. Subramaniam, managing director of Sri Andal. “Valmet has a strong reputation, and we trust that Valmet’s technology will help us to reach our high quality targets.”

Comments Varun Jain, director of the India region at Valmet, “With this technologically advanced project, we are setting our footprint in the Indian containerboard segment. We are looking forward to the successful start-up of this project, which will be a game-changer in the containerboard segment.”

Valmet describes the containerboard segment in India as fragmented and largely using Asian technology for board making. The Finnish equipment supplier says, “Sri Andal is aiming at producing high-quality containerboard with tangible efficiency improvements to enhance its competitiveness.”
